Wateredge site is at Crooklands with just a hotel bar close by. Kendal is a good 6 miles from there and not really walkable. The Kendal C&CC site is the only site that I would call walkable into town. You have Morrisons about a half a mile away on the edge of town then it's about a mile to the centre.

Some good restaurants here but the pub scene, sadly has declined. Places I would recommend for a pint of real ale would be. Burgundy's wine bar on the narrow street down the side of the town hall or the brewery arts centre has a huge range of drinks. There are other places but none that I bother with these days.

The C &CC site known as Windermere is actually closer to Kendal than it is to Windermere. It isn't within walking distance but does have a cosy little pub on site which serves bar snacks. It is also open for Xmas and the New Year.

Can REALLY recommend the CC site at Sedgwick, South of Kendal. Fantastic place, set in NT land, on the site of an old gunpowder factory, with great river walks, and another letting you follow the dry bed of the old Lancaster Canal into Kendal. This place is our number 1 local favourite. (y)(y)

Agree with Tootles post above: this is one of our favourite sites and even though it is CC the layout is very informal. No straight lines and not a mower in sight!

Ditto comments on Sedgwick CC site. We stopped there just for one night on the way back from Scotland and felt it was a place we could easily have spent a few days at.
