We are away in November and would like a back up heater, what would be the best choice, ceramic or fan heater.

Thanks

I use a fan heater, mainly because it blows the warm air all around my van and at 800w its not likely to trip out the power supply

We use an oil filled radiator. Can set thermostat and safe to leave on all night and safe for pets also dosnt take too much elecricity

... and to get back on thread .....

Forget ceramic type ones as they don't heat much, only what is next to them, a fan heat for overall and quick warm up is good but if you want to leave it on overnight either an oil or non-oil filled radiator, or a convector heater but these tend to be bulky.

We have diesel heating but if paying for EHU makes sense to use an electric one(y)

No matter what type you decide on it's the rated wattage that determines how much heat they give out.. not whether it's blown, convected or radiated..

Pros and Cons
Fan.. quick to heat up and circulates the warmth quickly... downside, noisy during the night as they click on and off .. even so called quiet ones.

Oil Filled .. silent and gives a nice background heat.. but slow, heavy and bulky

Convector.. silent and also gives a nice background heat .... bulky.

I would also caution against using leaving ANY portable heater untended.. ie while asleep.. they can all develop faults and catch fire.. your insurgence won't cover that .. but you may never get to find that out..

If you need overnight heat, better to use the installed heating.. or .. use an electric blanket..
