I can vaguely remember a visit to a friend of my Mum's at Westcliff-on-Sea in the 1950s but apart from that I think the only place I've stopped at in Essex was the services on the M11 for half an hour.

Would it be safe for somebody who only speaks English and comes from the cultured north to visit Clacton? :Eeek:

Hahahaa.
Had a drive all round today. Yes, clacton is a bit ...........kiss me quick!!!
Frinton and Walton on the naze however are quite nice - great for a prom walk and fish n chips!!! Especially in this weather!

And I reckon I could sort a rally out here - there are 3 fields and plenty of room! Let me get settled first though eh!!! Gotta make sure they'll allow us to stay on our 'rolling 28 day' basis first - all indications are good though;)

Looks lovely, never been to Clacton

You really want to avoid the place - scruffy in the summer and depressed in the winter. Chavvy all year round...... Go up the coast (no! not Jaywick direction) and Holland, Frinton are quite nice. Walton is ok as well. Plenty of fossilised sharks teeth on the beach at the Naze if you know where to look. Used to live in Holland on Sea for many years.

Oh yes - just avoid Dovercourt as well. Even the Rottweilers go around in pairs there. Where you are is really nice - we used to live about 3 miles away and it wasn't bad there either

To be fair - Clacton is a bit, .......tacky!
But, the surrounding area is actually very nice - honest!

You obviously haven't been to Jaywick yet! . Great Bently worth a visit, biggest village green in the country ;)
