Anyone got one of these TPMS fitted, i fitted mine this weekend, but did'nt know what to set the high temperature at. Iv'e read somewhere tyres can reach 90deg F.
Also if the tyre pressure is running at 80psi what will the high pressure limit be.
Any ideas?

Perhaps you should start low and if all six sound the alarm then obviously it needs increasing. Eventually you will find the normal running temperature.

What do the instructions say? surely they offer some guidance
nope,, just says default settings 150psi,,i can't remember for temp,,,minus 30c i think.
it is for trucks also, which run at 130psi so i suppose 20psi above normal.

Surely it is monitoring a pressure DROP not an increase? I would set it a few PSI below
Temperature monitoring must be for high so start at 30c

you can set it for low pressure and high pressure, also low & high temp.
it seems very accurate with the pressure thats in them now.

I don't see how low temperature is a consideration at all, you can't control that.
The alarm should be set to notify of low pressure and high temperature as hazards.

An under inflated or deflating tyre will get hot not cold

We have the tyre-pal system and I would say set the high pressure alarm about 8 or 10 psi above your normal running pressure, if you set it off I would suggest that the tyre pressures are actually too low and the sidewall flex is overheating the tyre and affecting the pressure. I have found that the ambient temperature has very little affect on the tyre pressure increase it is the distortion of the side walls that builds up the heat.

As for temperature you could start with 40 degC, I have not seen ours above this but we are using the flow through monitors so might be different.

Given what you say it sounds like you can set high and low pressure plus high and low temperature?

Most of us don't go out n about when it's freezing so IMHO I'd start off with temperature at low 0 high 35
Pressure at low 5 psi below normal and high 5 psi above normal and then adjust aftyer driving. The tyres should feedback normal use.

I should add that as you drive it will scroll through pressure and temperature so with a bit of experience you can fiddle with the set points.

Hi Andy

That's about what I started with but about 10 miles down the road all the alarms were going off, the fronts climb about 7 psi from 58 to 65 and the rears go up 5 or 6 depending what pressure I am running.

yes, thats what i have set it at, give or take a psi, i set the hi temp at 35.
i wont be trying it until we go to lincoln, but i suppose i'll have to experiment with it especially in the summer when abroad.
Thanks to you both for your help and info.

Hi I have the Tyre Pal system fitted and originally set the pressures with a variance of +10% and - 5% (as recommended by the guy that sold them at the NEC). I found the alarm was going off regularly so consulted the instructions and have now reset. The temp is advised as a factory setting of 70 degrees and I haven't messed with this. Had I not had this unit prior to joining the Funsters I would probably have gone with the LED monitors sold by Jim - a lot cheaper!

Hi Cal, thanks for that, i had Jims LED's on my last m/h, but i thought it would be better to monitor them whilst traveling + i would have needed 2 more as the new m/h is a tag axle,

I also have the TyrePal on Udo. I find all tyres increase by around 10psi front and rear when running.

I've not altered the temperature set-point but it took a bit of fiddling to stop the high pressure alarms going off. I was surprised how much higher they get. Maybe I should increase their pressures a little more? I'm running 60 / 65 front / rear.

In my view, the TyrePal is well worth it. I've just bought a set of Jim's valve cap monitors for one of my cars. Wouldn't work on Udo as his stainless steel wheel covers hide the valves completely.

I have the Tyrepal TB99 system and I set the tyre pressure warning at 20% above the regular pressure (5.5 bar in my case). As mentioned previously the pressures rise considerably and I had to set mine higher than the initial 6.1 warning I programmed.

Hi Bellini

Ours dont rise as much as 10psi but what tyre size are you on and what axle weights.

Hello Martin, I'm on 195/70/R15 tyres. I'm unsure of my axle weights but I know I'm at 4.6tonnes fully loaded. Most of that will be over the rear axle.

Ours are 225 75 16 so yours might be working a bit harder and therefore generating a bit more heat/pressure, saying that we are 1 tonne heavier.

I have fitted Tyrepal and found it to be very good indeed.

Tyrepal recommend the following alerts:

High pressure alert, 20% above recommended pressure
Low pressure alert, 15% below recommended pressure
High temperature is 70C by default
