1) One of the first vans, but not the first was a Commer selfbuild. I tookit on a 2 month tour down to Spain around 20 years ago.
2) An Elddis Autostratus EK. Somewhere in France around 17 years ago. One of the few English vans I owned, but apart from being grossly underpowered it was not a bad van.

The Commer must have been a good age when you converted it Snowbird.
Plenty of room right enough.

Just maybe it was 30 years ago, and not 20. Time flies when you are enjoying it.

Here is another of my oddball collections. An Elddis Autoking tag axle. I bought it in Spain several years ago and spent the winter doing it up before bringing it back to the UK. A big expensive van in its day, with a built in Onan LPG generator. Striped the carpet out and fitted laminate flooring and almost

rebuilt the thing over a period of around 6 months.

I went to Sweden in an ex British Rail Commer in 1980...Slow but sure....BUSBY:):)
I had an American friend that used to tow mobile homes down to the south of France on a purpose built trailer behind one of those ex British Rail Commer brew vans. He was a very patient man :).

This is a little special, a VW T4 which I bought in Spain from a French guy that had stopped travelling. I brought it back to the UK and made a matching trailer from a Suzuki Carry van. I cut the cab off and welded a front on it and sprayed it the same colour as the VW. I took that all over Scandinavia fishing and although it was a little cramped I lived in it for around a year.

This one will always have a place in my heart. Its a VW LT28 built by a Dutch boat builder on a new chassis and I bought it from a dealer friend in Holland. It had everything I needed for single travelling and was perfect for my needs at the time. I would still have it now but it just was not big enough for 2 people. It was a sad day indeed when I sold it, but circumstances change.

One here am sure Tambo will know. A VW T4 Dehla Profi. I bought this in Germany a couple of years ago. The Rolls Royce of VWs. Built in conglomeration with VW by the famous German yacht builders Dehla. A good bit of kit and very well put together. As far as I know the only T4 with toilet and shower factory fitted. I brought it back from Germany on a trailer behind the 670 RMB.

Yeah they were strange breeds the Delhi I actually had one on the older t25 model ..

One of the autosleeper conversions on the t4 had the rear extended section with a toilet and shower In it can't remember which one il have to go Google it

There's also a good winnebego conversion on the t4 called the rialta if you haven't seen one they were a nice piece of kit

Cheap Till a few years back but have now followed the rest of the vw mad prices

Our 1975 Type 2 Bay Window VW Devon conversion - we had it for 7 years before switching to a MH. Photo taken on surfari at Penhors, Brittany in 1999. The surfboard was brand new - my 40th birthday present. I first dipped its fin at that beach.

Now we come to the last of my Yanks. An 89 Tiffin Allegro basement model built on the John Deere chassis with a Cummins 5.9 Turbo diesel with Banks turbo kit. This was one flying machine and would cruise at 70 plus all day long. I used it to tow my boat around Europe for several years and had little problem with it. For a Yank it was quite short at 30 ft and made a great donkey for towing.

More modern times here with my FFB Tabbert 660. Built on the Peugeot chassis with the Citroen 2.5 turbo diesel. The same engine as the Citroen CX which in its day was the fastest production diesel in the world. That van could catch pigeons. I bought this in Spain and thought it was a keeper, toured Morocco with it and then set my heart on a RMB. The rest is history.
