I have one ! Whilst the unit user a few amps to (about 4-5 ) to heat the glow plug on start up, It's pretty much self sustaining after that.
If your getting numerous flashes with fully charged batteries you have a problem and need to decipher the flashing code which is in the user manual.
I would advise calling Webasto and they will confirm how much drain is taken from the battery on start up and may advise on the flashing you are witnessing.
I've had mine now for 3.1/2 years , have never had it serviced and it's quiet as a kitten and a superb bit of kit. I run in for a minimum of 1 hour per month to keep everything in good working order.
I have never had a problem with running from the batteries alone, which I do quite often.

amps are as follows..
Current input at 12V Summer mode < 1 A
Winter mode, heat and hot water 0.5 ~ 7 A
Stand-by 0.001 A

It was already there Jim!
I put one in there ages ago! Na Nana nah nah!!!!!!
you're welcome..
back to your amps.. just be aware, according to the manual, it uses 7 amps blowing hot air.. seems a lot .. but that's what it says.
Hi Jim
That is an absolute peak current in my experience. The glowplug is the culprit there.
I reckon in normal UK winter use, an average of 2 amps is good for battery endurance guesstimation.

thanks.. so my first guess was close to the mark.. cheers
Why don't you turn the Webasto on when you start your journey? It's diesel you can run it whilst on the move. It's a central heating system. Ours goes on before we turn a wheel and off when we get home.

Old diesel heaters use much more current than gas.
The Webasto Dualtop doesn't! Its one of the new generation!
I feel the myth that all diesel heaters are heavy on the battery in comparison to equivalent gas systems is starting to have the same status as gassing stories!
Yes, sorry, should have said older diesel ones like this 2005 Eberspacher.

That's lucky I ain't selling it , Southdowns do not have the diagnostic equipment but they got someone in that does. If the fault was the wrong wiring it would have had problems since new. Considering the van is 08 and the motor was installed by the manufacturer I am putting it down to age related problems and the faults have been diagnosed and a fix is on its way. I am just pleased they will lend me a van for lincoln if mine is not ready.I don't buy that at all.
Have Southdown's got the Webasto diagnosis kit? If they had, they wouldn't be sending it to a specialist.
I really do think, in light of the fact you only get problems on startup, that the thickness and quality of the wiring installed by the motorhome manufacturer is inadequate.
But I will withhold judgement until you have had a professional diagnosis!
