Forgot that tighty righty and lefty loosey does not apply, nearly dislocated my shoulder before I remembered. You can never find a man when you need one. Fridge works so all systems go for Malvern, pity we are in General camping but we will wander over, serves us right for dithering.

You don't need a man - you need something that wasn't designed by a man to be totally illogical!

If anyone can tell me why the thread seems to be back-to-front, I'd love to hear. (y)
The man who designed it was left handed

I think it had something to do with B S ( British Standards ) from years gone by. All combustable Gases, i.e. Propane, Butane, Acetylene, etc were Left hand Thread, so as not to be confused with other Gases, i.e. Inert Gases, etc.. If you look at the Hose coupling that goes on to a Propane or Butane Gas Bottle, you should find a single or double Groove round the coupling Nut, to indicate that it has a Left Hand Thread. Hope this helps.

Ok - that nearly makes sense but I don't understand WHY?

Surely you would know what sort of gas - inert or otherwise - was in the bottle before you connected/disconnected it?

You don't want to be connecting the wrong sort of gas to a bit of equipment.

So you make the gear so it is impossible to connect.

You could say it makes it "idiot proof"...

But sometimes I am not sure...
