France passion is considerably better this year now that they have put coordinates in the book you can plan beforehand where they are, before it was a bit of a game trying to find them and sometimes you could go miles and never see a sign of them, as usually all there is ,is a 6in round sign outside the gate, but even so they are usually worth finding and on most of them there is no pressure at all, in fact you have a job to find anyone at most of them but we do go out of season so perhaps they are not bothering so much then.
Yeah we have been there, couldn't see anything to buy, did talk to the farmer a bit though as Julie can speak French, and being ex dairy farmers we knew pretty much what he was on about, we also went to this one in the mountains They had eggs and goat stuff on a table to help yourself but again no one about, they sort of went home at about 4 o clock and came back in the morning with vans and loaded up , presumably for shops and things, but didn't want to be bothered with our bits.Sticking to the guidelines we have always gone in search of the farmer to say bonjour and au revoir, and sometimes you feel as if you are more of a bother to them - but they are always very friendly. We had a conversation with one dairy farmer who couldnt's speak any english but we managed to find out why a cow had been left on her own, and was making one hell of a noise, she had just had a calf and was separated from her to make sure her milk came in (I think that was what he said anyway!) We compounded our 'bother' level by asking for ice cream the next morning before we caught the chunnel home, and his wife had to get up, come to the shop, open it up and serve us with the ice-cream - I feel sure she would have been happier to have not bothered and let us go with just an au revoir, but we feel we always have to buy something!
