Hi Yorick,
While you are at the ardeche you must hire a canoe , I did from Vallon pont d'arc municipal c/site, great canoe ride 2/3hrs down the ardeche then picked up taken back to campsite , it's definitely a must do.

We had the first spot all to ourselves in bright sunshine for two days in April, with free parking and no entry charge. Hardly any bloody plastic canoes full of braying tourists to spoil the atmosphere either. :)

Looks like an interesting itinerary there Yorick - bon voyage.

Fingers crossed for Chamonix. No point in paying all that dosh if the viz is not perfect.

We were in Chamonix last summer, overnighting in the Aire ready to go up the Aguille the next morning. Woke up and it was raining with the cloud base 100m above us. Cable car was closed not that there would have been much point.

We are now in the L'Eure at Chateaudun and will head towards Chamonix in the next week or so keeping an eye on the forecast.

SWMBO and the boys have never been up to the top there, so we are determined to make it this year before we venture into Italy and beyond.....(y)(y)

We'll give you a wave Yorick......::bigsmile:::bigsmile:

We've never been able to go up there either, always low cloud or wind or some other reason. The aire isn't that great either (it's a carpark)

Aiguille du midi - try and get up there early - two reasons....

A) the cloud can build up in the afternoon
B) you have to fight your way past gazillions of Asian tourists

Enjoy - there is a lot of "down" whichever way you look........

Not sure who first recommended Aiguille du midi, but I'm glad they did. Was amazing. The 1hr 40mins we had was over all too soon. We could have stayed longer but we didn't realise/

And it was on me birfday. Yes, you all missed that.
