Wow, what a spooky coincidence. After posting the above I returned to reading Chris Stewart's* Last Days of the Bus Club on Kindle. The paragraph I was reading described some late night revelry in southern Spain and in particular drinking cuba libres which apparently in Spain covers any fizzy drink poured over spirits. He lists some of the common ones then mentions the "...deeply abhorrent coke and whisky."!
