Perhaps it's a bit of games overload Wingman...... London Olympics and then the FIFA World Cup?

My daughter is one of the chauffeurs.

Will you be watching? What do you think the Glasgow opening ceremony theme will be all about?

I'm thinking the big vote will get a mention

And a celebration of Scottishness
As a country and people

Me an armchair watcher I do like opening ceremonies though

With all the counties anthems to be played or sung

I'll be watching some of the show and really hope it is something special, every little bit helps to broaden the appeal of Scotland.
Watched the concert at Edinburgh Castle on Saturday evening, in general pretty good considering the horrendous weather.

Love Scotland. But shan't be watching. Nothing else on tv either that appeals to me.
Heard today that if Scotland does go it alone. They will have to have their own currency. From the Cameron's own mouth no less.
Too right IMO too. (y) It will cost them an absolute bomb to do it.

It will make it more difficult visiting the place, having to get scotch currencies , but if they don't want to be part of the uk. So be it .
Then they can also fund their free UNI places and prescriptions and dental care too.
It certainly won't stop me visiting the place, that's for sure.

Just to give a few facts:

The free Uni places are funded from The Queen's Remembrancer. When someone in Scotland dies without leaving a will and no entitled relatives can be found or come forward the estate is paid into a ring-fenced fund for educational purposes. In England the estates just go into general treasury funds.

We do pay for dental care.

Prescriptions are free but the number and variety of drugs are far less than that available in England. This is particularly noticeable when it comes to cancer drugs. I was prescribed drugs in an English hospital when receiving treatment there but they were not available in Scotland. It was a very difficult time knowing there were drugs that would keep my illness under control but were not available where I lived. My specialist solved the problem by enrolling me on a research programme but that isn't available to everyone.

No offence meant but I get a bit riled when I hear "You get this and you get that and we pay for it."

the opening clips as so often show empty 'corporate seats' at the front when all the public seats are full

send a fine to those non attenders for insult to their country

Sorry about that puddle duck. I stand corrected.
It was just what I was lead to believe by the press.
So you pay for all dental care no NHS , but get free prescriptions, but only certain drugs? Then do you pay a prescription charge for the other drugs , or the full whack?

The same thing happens in England with the cancer drugs I'm afraid. Depends which post code you come under , to whether you can get them. Sorry state of affairs when you know it can give you a better life expectancy.

The VIP my daughter was supposed to be driving around hasn't shown up and no apology..... she has taken 3 weeks unpaid leave from work to volunteer and isn't best pleased although she may be re-allocated to the athletes' transport services.

There are NHS dentists but few and far between so usually we end up having to go private. I've been on the dentists' waiting list for 8 years since my last dentist retired - that's for any dentist, private or NHS.

We only get certain drugs. If you want anything else it has to go through hoops and then you pay full whack if the application is approved.

The press only give part of the story as always.......

Now isn't that a totally sensible idea?

Why did no one in England think to actually identify where unclaimed estates would go? Could be schools, hospitals, Uni places, elderly care, any number of things.

I really wonder what politicians are paid for...

I would send the VIP a letter at least. Whoever it is should have at least apologised.
