I have a Rimor on a transit 2.4 Diesel engine, I know nothing about electrics, I have a small Solar panel on roof (of course).
I need to buy a Leisure Battery, my last one leaked and nearly gassed us, can somebody suggest what sort of battery I should be looking to buy, as I say, watts and things go over my head.

Thanks for any help given :)

It is a DEEP CYCLE battery, which means unlike a car battery, they can handle being discharged to a higher capacity and recharged again without affecting the future performance of the battery. Another thing to note about these batteries which is vital is that when charging and discharging they have 550 life cycles.

I am quite impressed with our EXIDE Gel batteries, I would be tempted to buy them as replacements if these ever give up the ghost but they are only 8 years old at the moment so years of life in them.

Not everyone's choice I know.

I to have been reading the same article. Also on there website is an article about battery bank capacity with schaudt elektrobloks it seems that the maximum size is 10x the charging capacity which in the case of the ebl220 is 18a thus the maximun battery bank is 180amp hr including a 60ah allowance for the starter battery. So the maximum leisure battery bank is 120ahr. I have 200ah:( and problems with the solar panel charging.

This is interesting. We too have the bl220 and I think our batteries ( 2 x 90ah) need replacing as they are 4+ years old and dont seem to hold charge as well as previously.
Given the above would I be better off getting one battery 180ah ( assuming you can get such a beast) rather than 2 x 90ah? What is the advantage of having 2 rather than one battery as per my question?

thanks in advance.

price and weight

2 x alphaline 110ah batteries with 4 year warranty are cheaper then 1 180ah battery, which is rare and very expensive and heavy

When we bought Busty, she had two 110ah leisure batteries and a 90ah starter battery,( I’m sure the Ebox literature stated 350ah max) anyhoo the ebox burned out after a few months and we had it replaced under warranty. Fitted a new starter battery late last year and a new leisure battery (110ah) this year, wish I’d gone silver as I want to fit solar but not sure if it’s worth it with only 110ah capacity to store, as we rarely use ehu.

Got an Advanced 110ah a month ago, just £59.50 on eBay (search it) £7.00 delivery. Silver Calcium tec. Got great feedback and more to the point it was one of the very few that would fit in our battery box being 190mm high. Worked a dream while we were in Yorkshire 4 days for the tour with no hookup, including Dawns hair dryer on our 1000w inverter. It makes no difference if it lasts half as long as one thats twice as much (y)
