Since 2005
depending on the age of your van it may be equipt with a canbus system of lighting.

if so DO NOT connect directly to the wiring or rear lights....y o u will need either a vehicle specific wiring loom (usually extortionately priced) or a cheap universal bypass relay kit.

a bypass relay only has one live wire from the vans battery and a series of electronic relays.

when you turn on a light (tail/flasher/brake) a signal is sent to that lights relay which closes and makes the connection to the corresponding light on the trailer/toad.
the connection is directly to the battery....not that lights wiring.

direct connection to the light wires will blow the canbus module....and that is expensive.

I have that system.. (Fitted by them)... and I think it is quite complicated, if it`s the same...

Mine has the little computer and is attached to the brake pedal by a wire hawser working off the computer..

The system does not use the car`s battery for light`s and indicators, it comes direct from the motorhome.... hence the 13 pin plug..

The computer reads what you are doing in the M/Home.. as in braking and it works the car brakes..

Yes it has the wire from a motor.... which is I believe the brains box/computer to the whole installation..

I`ll give it a try later this morning... :thumb:

To be quite honest.... other than a little box with some electronic gizmo, I cannot see what is different on the battery,,, and whether I can find where the electrics is connected remains to be seen..

The instalation is all very neat and well hidden,,, but as said will give it a go.. :thumb:

Here you go... don`t think they are going to be any help...

Wiring is so well concealed, I just cannot see where any of it goes...

The box thing on the top of the battery is to do with it... (I was advised to cover it, as it is susceptible to damp, hence the plastic bag taped over it)..

Thanks old mo

Hi again mate thanks for that I have sussed out some of the wiring and looking at yours they vary a little bit, but I am sure I will get it working in the car as it is working on the bench , so a word to the wise if you are anticipating buying one of these secondhand make sure it's labeled before it's removed from the donor car
Cheers::bigsmile:
