When is best time to go to france ? july and august or sept and october ? looking in to things the main holiday season is july / aug,,,,,so are we better going in sept ? No better place to ask this question than on here...

We go last week in August for three weeks if we can,weather still good then
Well down south it is, mind you last year it rained all the way down to the med,
then sunshine for most of the hol.

Rather depends what you want and whereabouts you are thinking of going.

If warm / hot sunny weather is a priority, then July / August might be wise. Although everywhere will be a bit busy and you'll most likely pay top prices if you want to use campsites.

However, if you use the ACSI or Camping Cheque discount schemes, it's worth looking closely at the validity dates, because low-cost camping often starts around the 3 rd week of August at some sites.

September will be quieter, but the weather can be more mixed - especially towards the latter part of the month. My perception is that summer generally hangs on longest in Provence, and then the Languedoc-Roussillon region of the Mediterranean next.

But you pays your money and takes your choice... Oh and there are no absolute certainties with the weather... at any time.

sept will generally be quieter but if you are going to stay in the north eg brittany etc, the weather can be a tad unpredictable . usually very similar to the weather here in devon/cornwall at that time of year . regards garry.

Been a few times , August is to busy as most of France goes on holiday for the month..... Kids and campers everywhere..

We usually avoid France from mid July to mid August as it's too busy.
That said, last year we had to go mid August because of other commitments and found the aires were OK except along the Med coast. Sites were busy and expensive on the whole. It seemed that the millions of families avoided the aires as there was nothing to get the kids out of their way.

Due to having to go when schools out for summer here, we went mid July till end of Aug on our first trip over last year. We covered a fair distance and had no problems with it being busy in most places. Puy du fou was crazy though but well worth it.
This year will go a week before school summer break shhh ! to do the Disney thing and check out the east side. Cant wait :thumb:
