Got a strikeback alarm fitted to kontiki last week by vanbitz, great job, no problems

We went down to the caravan club site at crystal palace and parked up, set the alarm and went out for the day, when we got back could not unst the alarm for bout 10 mins, pressing the button had no effect.
blody strikeback what a load of rubbish
then i looken up and right at the side of the camper was a massive t.v mast, approx 100 metres high
i wondered if this was affecting the signal?
after another 10 mins, we managed to turn it off, and didnt set it again until we got home this morning, guess what, all works perfectly again now we are not near the mast.

So vanbitz.... was calling you not fit to burn, but it was the BBC fault:Angry:

:Smile:May not have anything to do with it, but when this happened to me, it turned out that someone had been trying my door whilst I was away from the van.... someone came over to tell me ... I wondered whether that was why I had to wait for my alarm to unlock the door. It has worked fin since then:thumb:

I used to have the same problem when i did breakdown recovery.

RAF Fylingdales early warning station, on the Yorkshire moors, emits microwave pulses and they jam some car immobilisers.

tow the car out of 'line of sight' of the radars and then it would start.

many many years! since I was a kid
i have the same issue at a couple of places i visit. one is a relatives place and "IF" i can get the alarm to set, i cant turn it off by using the remote. everyone that lives there knows about the problem so always lock and unlock cars by using their key. for my 4x4 its a bit difficult as there is only a hidden emergency only keyhole which you have to prise off a trim piece to get at. very annoying

plus i seem to get more headaches in those areas too possibly due to the high frequency effecting me. some people feel unsettled and nauseous there too

Interference from cellphone masts used to be a bit of a nightmare for alarm systems. Don't know if that's still the case.

have you contacted Vanbitz and asked them? had strikebak on 2 vans over the past 5+ years and have had absolutely no issues whatever.

worth putting in a call, I am sure Eddie would be mortified if you had a problem he was able to solve and did not tell him. alternatively he may be able to confirm it was the transmitter next to you, at least you will know for sure.

It's been perfect since returning, so I'll keep an eye on it, I'm sure it was the transmitter

Yes, it would have def been interference from the transmitter ..

It gets worse.. Many alarms, especially those fitted to motorcycles, are susceptible to interference from fone masts ( happy to supply the makes worse affected by PM if needed )

The strikeback has really good interference suppression but so class to a massive powerful transmitter it would need lead shielding to completely overcome the effect !

You were gassed:Eeek:

The tiny amount of power our remotes can use, to conserve power, and not to make the remote the size of a brick, looses, as do all alarms, even car alarms fitted to Motorhomes :winky: to the massive amounts of power used by the transmitters at Crystal Palace that transmit around the World.

Getting close to the windscreen and putting the remote, flat against the glass normally will over come the problem though:thumb:

Try this

I know I am going to be in for a bit of stick for saying this but never mind.

Try putting the zapper/fob next to your head when you press the button.

It appears to increase its range.

Don't know why it works but it does. :thumb::thumb:

The strikeback is based on the Meta system used on thousands of vehicles worldwide so it may be worth googling to see if any other people have had similar problems. My Meta system has an override electronic key that I can insert into a socket to stop the system, so if a mast was jamming my signal I still could override it. If its a regular problem I would think that vanbitz could fit one to your system.

I once had this issue on a car but it turned out to be that I had a spare fob for another alarm system in my glove box which was being activated and was close to the receiver for my alarm, once removed the problem was gone.
