We are off to Germany again for a month and would like to visit Hameln and tour south down the river Weser using mainly stellplatz. Has anyone done this trip, or know of any traditional medieval towns and villages on route.
Eventually we hope end up in Trier and work our way up the Mosel which we know quite well.

Mosel

There is a nice stop at Millery ( not sure on spelling) its between Thionville and Metz, right on the banks of the river with water and waste disposal but NO shops. :thumb:

Thanks,
Not been there since 1985 as we have no fixed itinerary you never know we might end up having a walk down memory lane. OK maybe over the dam at least. Do they still have the Schnellimbiss kiosk in the carpark?:roflmto:

We tend to start at Trier and meander north using Stellplatz. Don't stress out over an itinerary as it's best to just go with the flow. We have used campsites before, but found them to be expensive and somewhat cramped at peak periods. We normally shop at ALDI, LIDL or NORMA which is just like being at home apart from you shop the opposite way around, now that really feels odd, don't laugh wait till you try it.
My personal best liked towns are Berndt Kassel, Cochem (use municipal campsite near the swimbad) and Koblenz. A must see is Andernach on the Rhine (get there early for a good spot) we tend to go across country to the area of Ahrweiler and use the Stellplatz at the swimbad. if you want to break up the road journey from the ports there is a Stellplatz at Düren which is quite handy. Get talking to the other Stellplatz users they will give you loads of tips and good advice (mostly) over a glass of wine or two. take a spare hook up cable as some electric hook up points can be quite a distance from pitches. good luck and give us a wave as you pass Leyland:thumb:

We were there this time last year.

The Schnelly is in the car park across the road from the Dam car park. We used it quite a bit! We stayed in the Delecke / Korbecke / Soest / Lippstadt area for a couple of weeks and drove and walked down many "memory lanes"

Some things have changed but others are the same. St Sebastian Barracks and Salamanca Barracks are now industrial estates. Churchill Barracks in Lippstadt is a housing estate - a very nice one too! They have used the old buildings and also built new housing.

Think our first port of call is going to be Paderborn for a few days then we will just see what happens.
