Just had an oil change in my 2007 3ltr Ducato Motorhome and according to the invoice they have put 5w 30 in, yet everywhere I have read is states to use 5w 40. Is this a problem?

Thanks

5 - 40 is recommended on euro 4 fiat ducatos, 5w - 30 has been known to cause a few leaks.

5w/30 is a very popular bulk oil for garages.

With no specific customer recommendation they will use their bulk supply.

Best option by far is supply your own oil.....and if you want a quality filter rather than a cheap one then supply that as well.

Both will be cheaper than letting the garage put there stuff in.

many many years! since I was a kid
currently got a small oil leak appeared on my mh engine since i had an oil change recently. i am suspecting the apprentice at the garage put in the wrong oil. suspect it was the apprentice as the oil level was low after running the engine for a few minutes (but no leak) so had them top it up

after about 150 miles i now have a small weep from somewhere at the back of the engine. so will change the oil again but use the correct grade and a decent filter

We use the Industry standard AUTODATA as a guide to what engine oil goes in what vehicles and I've just checked - they say your vehicle takes 7LTR 5/30 synthetic engine oil so you should be OK.:thumb:
And I would say not all garages use cheap low grade oil!!

My 3.0 litre FIAT DUCATO (IVECO) takes 9 litres and as others have said the recommended oil is 5w40 in fact Selinia WR 5W-40 or equivalent
Have you a link to this Autodata?

they got paid on the day, as the boss apologised and topped the oil up personally. at the time it got past me that the oil is too thin. however a few weeks on and i have an oil stain on the drive. my brain automatically clicked in an i realised that there was no issue pre oil change and i know it was an apprentice did the job, under supervision they said

probably the last time i trust that garage, if they let things like this get past their quality control (double check the idiot apprentice). cheaper to just change the oil myself or have somebody else do it whilst cleaning and checking the engine rather than argue the point. next time they may not be so lucky and damage an engine with incompetence. sad really as they've done work for me for a few years. had a couple of minor issues before but put it down to them being busy and under pressure.

Just put your registration in any website for parts. I think they would be accountable if wrong information was given

I kicked off over a service receipt in my service history because the garage charged for 9 litres of oil and all the infomation on the web says 7 so I thought the previous owner had been conned :roflmto:
As I do my own servicing I can confirm that 9 litres IS required.
That is a big sump and 7 barely touches the dip stick

As service intervals are 45k kilomoeters and none of us do anywhere near that I don't believe it is worth paying nearly £100 for oil to bin it every year at well under 10 thousand miles.
The Total 9000 is a great oil at a very good price at 20 litres for £91 delivered :thumb:
