Question idle curiousity !

Just as a matter of interest, what is the difference between av-gas and av-tur ? i have seen tankers on airfields and wonder what is the difference !

I believe from my C 130 hercules working days... AV gas is more of a petrol based fuel for piston engined motors, where as AV tur is a kerosene / Jet A1 mixture for turbine compressor type... but I may be wrong.

Avgas is a high octain type petrol,, and Avtur is similar to kerosene..

Yep, that's it. Used to carry tonnes of the stuff around the world, as well up to Vietnam during the late 60s for the US forces. Aviation Gasoline and Aviation Turbine fuel (high grade kero).
