Often people will say "well of course it could be your children that were in that car"
No it wouldn't! Yes we all get up to things that we don't want our parents to know about, but neither my kids or I have thought that is would be acceptable to "A" steal a car or "B" refuse to stop when to to do so by a Police Officer.
It saved the Country a fair bit of money in my opinion, and I hope that the Policeman does not get any grief from this.
One of the numpties at work suggested that the Police were wrong as they should have given up the chase, and this would have saved the deaths! Duh and thereby given the green light for everyone to simply bugger off at speed whenever the Blue lights appear behind you!

Hi,
I do agree with most of what has been said, but why do the police chase them when quiet clearly they have the technology to radio ahead and get another vehicle or set of vehicles to block there path, as Police officers and the general public die in some of these chases, not just thieves
I was watching one show where they were following a car along the motorway at 148MPH their computer did not register any problems with ownership or outstanding warrants etc and when the car stopped they issued a penalty notice, they could have done that without the chase which put everyone's lives at risk why.
I am not a do good-er i advocate Zero Tolerance and would build more prisons to house them, but not all polices chases are necessary.

traffic police
Hi to all,i agree with Dave. They should have stopped and they would still be here.Too often the press coverage (tv and Papers) blame the police and while i can honestly say I dont particularly like them, we cannot do without them.
These low lifes steal someones pride and joy, whether or not it's an old banger or a Roller people work hard to buy, insure them and use them to go about there business.
The courts (if it ever gets there) let them off with community service, what a joke.
Cant say i'm glad for the loss of life but, they and their friends and families are now mourning their stupidity and by the way saves us money by way of no costs in putting them to prison (if we are lucky!!)
I am very glad that in this case the PCC has already issued a statement clearing the police officers involved.About time they got their act to-gether.

A different slant
I'm putting my head above the parapet and you'll guess the job i do but i get fed up with the media's bias on this sort of incident. One of things not considered is the effect on the officers after being involved in a fatal incident. I haven't been involved personally but know people who have and it will stay with them for the rest of their lives. The people who drive in this manner invariably drive like that when not being pursued and it was their (or at least the driver's) choice. I could go on and on but small rant over. I do feel sorry for the families of ALL those involved.

A couple of years ago the police chased three young thieves who had stolen a car from North Wales and were driving it too Liverpool.
Upn entering the Mersey Tunnel the police set up a road block by having a bus parked across the tunnel so there was no escape.
The stolen car crashed in to the bus and two kids were killed. No matter that they had stolen a car. They didnt deserve to die !!!!
Jim
Edit: A lot of people seem to forget that there are a lot of innocent people killed and injured by police cars racing about the streets like lunatics. I'm sure that at least one half of these policemen think its all good fun and the other half havent got a brain to think with. Jim

Is it me or do the younger generations not have as much morals as I was brought up with?
If only people realised how many people actually drive without valid licences or insurance and thats without underage drivers
If only there was a way to physically stop them from breaking the law.
About 2 weeks ago there was doctor on tv who had been stopped by police who shouldnt have been driving and had kids in the car - and a doctor, as the officer rightly said, should know better because the injured end up in hospital being treated by doctors.

I know exactly what you mean, but I find that those that work with children have a much more positive attitude towards them than the stories in the press would imply. I am a member of a shooting club and one afternoon a week some of the pupils from the local college come and take lessons in air gun shooting - teaching them correct behaviour, safe procedures and so forth is part of the tuition. The kids are between 12 and 15 years old. I am not involved in the teaching, mainly because I am not as yet trained to be a training officer. My son runs a drama group for children between the ages of 8 and 15. OK, in both cases we are talking about middle income (middle class - much as I find the term divisive it is a useful indicator) children. A lot of the College kids are from landowning / farming backgrounds and quite a few of them are boarders from Hong Kong.
There was an article from the BBC at this link
BBC NEWS | UK | Are we negative about our children?
which I found quite interesting. But I don't believe youngsters are any more badly behaved that we were (as a generation I mean - coz I was a good boy ), I think we just get to hear about a lot more.
John
