Why in gods name would anyone want to sleep in a parked vehicle in town nowadays? Is it really worth saving one nights camping fees? If I remember rightly there's a campsite a few hundred yards from where they were parked.
I'm not unsympathetic towards the elderly gent who got injured but wasn't it just putting temptation in the way of some thugs?

Just goes to show that you are not safe any where.
I have always said , any problems and you should drive off. No heroics.
I am always telling my son-in-law, I never use external blinds, always internal so that they can be removed without opening doors. dont confront. dont park so that you are blocked in.

I'm inclined to agree with you. There are some beautifull spots near where we live which would seem ideal for a nights wild camping, but we've seen some of the yobs that pss that way when the pubs turn out and the damage they do to road signs etc. For that reason we always use camp sites lets face it there are some very cheap CL's and CS's.

''AN elderly man sleeping in a camper van in Old Roman Bank, Winthorpe, was assaulted in the early hours of Saturday morning.''
''The 61-year-old man opened the rear of the van and was assaulted.''
Is 61 years old elderly?

I was talking to my wife about this story and she was surprised I was blaming the campers.
Now that brought me up with a jolt. I wasn't blaming the campers but I thought they had contributed to the incident. They parked without thinking of the risks. They remonstrated with the hooligans and then went out to confront them.
Have I really become so used to the idea of violence that I now expect it? Should it really be down to all of us to avoid putting ourselves at risk?
Now, thinking about, I do cross the road to avoid confrontation but I don't remember when or why I started doing it. Not good is it?
Doug

Lets have a meet in Skegness and sort these b--tards out!
A show of force! (so to speak)
Plonk 40 motorhomes at the place it happened and see if the buggers come back!
The message would be sent!
