Warning Halifax Users
Just rx a strange e-mail supposedly from Halifax requesting verification of on-line account. BEWARE as it looks quite genuine funny though as I don't have an online account Suggest you take care if you are an on-line bank user

Its called Phishing, In brief, a 'phishing' email is one that pretends to be from a company like your bank, Ebay or Paypal and which asks you, (for various reasons), to enter your account data, such as login details. These scams are often supported by fake spoof websites, and victims are tricked into thinking they are logging to a real website. Phishing is a form of identity theft, where fraudsters steal your identity and personal information to gain access to your accounts or commit other crimes using your persona.
They used to be easy to spot with bad grammar and poorly spelled emails but they are getting slicker. These con artists send out millions of these emails everyday stealing a fortune from the unwary.

No doubt addressed to "Dear Halifax customer".
The banks never address their customers like this. I get a couple a day & they are all marked as spam by Thunderbird, & so into the round bin

I get them as well and I am not a customer, They just send out millions, literally, and they know that some Halifax customers will be among them.

We have a couple of online accounts with them but seems silly that stuff like this which is becoming more frequent could be easily forwarded to for their customers sake and their own.

I get the same e'mails all the time particularly the Paypal one.
Also the Nigerian one where they have £100,000s in accounts from finished projects that have to be paid to a foreign bank account! A total con they hook you along and then just as the money is to be paid into your account a tax of say 10% has to be paid quite a few have been caught!!
I made the mistake of repying to one of the e'mails telling them where to stick their con
Next time I openned my e'mail account I had 3000 messages took ages to delete them this went on for about 2 weeks!!!
So be careful
Regards Pat
