Default Mosquito ultrasonic device

I was listening to Radio 2 today - Jeremy Vine show and they were discussing mosquitoes. These are not the insects, but a very high pitched alarm that can only be heard by the under 20's......
It is a apparently a proven deterrent for groups in this age group who congregate in certain places like carparks, outside corner shops etc. and cause problems for the rest of the community.
There are two camps of thought on this - one being the human rights issues of the youngsters that hear this very high pitched whine and have to move on.
The other is of course the pro-lobby that recognises the benefits of the device.

The Times link may explain a little further if you haven't seen it in the news....

Any thoughts?

Mam got one of these to keep mice out of the laundry room last year. Me, my brother and the cat all refused to visit until she removed it. Was flippin painful!

I think they are a good idea, but ..I remember hanging out around the chippy or the local shops as a teenager, with nowhere else to go.

If kids are doing something wrong then they should be moved on, but I think a lot of people have forgotten what its like to be spotty yoof, just hanging out and having a laugh. I remember it well but I suppose I do have the advantage that it wasn't that long ago

Come on Jim it's decades ago you forgot what Newbury's about apart from the show
But the question is where do they go ? what are we going to do put those mossy things every where
where are all the yoof clubs and coffee bars that were around when i was a nuisance

My spotty yoof punk chums and I used to hang out and have a Merrydown cider-assisted laugh high on a hill overlooking the town. The local cemetry!

We never did disturb anyone

well i see it like this............. 20yrs from now we're gonna have a cartload of todays yobs draining the NHS coffers needing hearing aids.

if ASBO's dont stop em then these wont. just turn up the ipod.

what we really need is more coppers on the beat and less mamby pamby law makers.

Kids have started using the sound as a ring tone on their mobiles because the teachers can't hear it when their in class. Smart eh

We have a shop in a small precinct, the precinct is next to a very large grassed area, the size of 4-5 football pitches so where do the play football? outside the shop, smashed ours and the shop next doors window last year. Hit an old dear in the face with the ball, generally just being a bloody nuisance

Ask them to move on and you get abuse, call the cops and you get nothing, after the landlord fitted 2 of these devices the problem has largely gone away, although last week they were out there with skate boards.
