The rubbish NHS
A few weeks ago we had a thread on getting back to the UK for medical treatment, and I said I would rather go to France or Spain.
Have a read of this...

Like most things in the UK, its bent, Broken or not working.

Sorry to disagree......NHS is working well down here in Kent.
Wife went to Docs 3 weeks ago with small problem....reckon you need a ultrasonic scan says Doc......10 days later we get a letter with an appointment for 11.15 this morning (a Sunday)....we turn up 20 minutes early to hear wife's name being called as we walk in....she walked out after the scan at 11.15......report will be with your GP within 1 week.
This is not a one off.....I had to have an MRI 2 years ago.....appointment within 3 weeks....results (negative thank God) within 1 week.
10 years ago, the NHS service down here was CR*P. Today, it is excellent and we can see the results of increased Govt spending on the NHS.
Guess there will be many posts now about how lousy the NHS is...... we are very pleased with our experiences of late.

Yup, loads big problems but I am not gonna say a word agin the team of doctors and nurses who kept Mo with me .. Without their dedication I would have lost her
The care they gave, the time they gave, the professionalism displayed at all times, the absolute cleanliness of the ward and facilities ( this was in Addenbrooke's in Cambridge ) could not be faulted..
Yes there are very poor hospitals but ( and this is a bit of a wild one I admit )..........
Some hospitals perform fantastically and consistently while others, equally consistently fail in so many aspects..
Should the powers that be not look at the reasons for this anomaly ?
My immediate response ( being somewhat jaded by the crooks commonly called MP's ! ) is that just maybe the management teams in the failing hospitals should be dumped and people who can get the job done put in their place
Yes, we see lots about funding, but again, that is about management of resource and people. Poor management results in poor performance
To put it in a simplistic way, if these sods were foorball managers they would be out on their ear !!

I can only say I do not agree the NHS does a great job when you are really ill ,it has done for me try spending a few weeks on life support it tends to change your views a little ,not something you forget in a hurry the care and dedication of the people you owe your life to. So from me a big to the NHS

To many people who haven't used the nhs in an emergency, have to much to say about how bad it is. My brother had a serious accident when he lived in aldershot, he took a heavy tackle to his abdomen playing rugby and damaged his spleen, without the fast thinking, well trained medical staff in a&e he would have bled to death internally. Within a month of my mother going to see her g.p. about feeling unwell, she had scans and results and undergoing treatment for myloma, incurable form of cancer, very hard to diagnose but treatment to prolong life is available all on the nhs.I myself have an incurable disease but have had nothing but top rate treatment from the nhs.So im afraid i have to disagree with the doom mongers, but if they don't like it they can always go private, but best check the stats for misdiagnoses and wrong treatments and even unnecessary treatments first, and if they ever have the unfortunate position of being in an accident im sure they will be more than happy for the nhs to help them

How very true this is.
I only wish these people actually would go into private health care instead of abusing the NHS facilities but when it comes to the crunch, they don't! The problem is, those that actually do go 'private' simply end up getting treated via the use ( abuse) of NHS facilities.
My cousins life was saved after her disillusioned husband transferred her out of Private Health into the local NHS hospital. In their case money was never a problem....he's an extremely wealthy guy and could easily afford treatment anywhere. But the Private hospital she was in was doing little and getting nowhere so he took immediate action. The brain surgeon who operated on her in the NHS hospital then attempted to claim payment via the private sector. My cousins husband hit the roof and contacted BUPA to block the claim and also inform them that the operation was done under the National Health and not whilst she was in private health care.
Needless to say he now views the private health sector with contempt.

I went to the doctors and he told me I was paranoid....he didn't actually say it, but that's what he was thinking.

There are certainly problems with the administrative side of the NHS - back door privatisation by the creation of Foundation Trusts, reliance on private sector cleaning and the stupid "chuck a database at it" government attitude being the first which spring to mind.
In our experience, though, the medical staff are second to none - and that includes both doctors and nurses in hospitals and GP practice that we have used in recent years.
Don't let us put you off going to France or Spain though Doug - it's a free world
