Hi,

From what i have read it appears the Icelandic people feel that the bank should pay the money back, but as we know the bank doesn't have any money, so we as creditors expect the Icelandic Government to pick up the tab, and from what i can understand the sort of money that needs to be paid back is equivalent to around half of what they spend on there health service in a year.

On one side i can agree with the people i wouldn't want to have to pay more tax to give it to some other countries, and perhaps not be able to treat people in our own hospitals as we haven't got enough money to go round, just because some of our greedy bankers wanted to live the high life,

On the other-side if i had my life savings in the bank I wouldn't care where the money came from I would just want it back.

What would you do,

Democracy in action - we could do with some of that in the UK. The banks lost all of their money and the EU want the Icelanders to pay it back - I think the big finger is justified Make the banks liable for their own actions.

Maybe we should send our useless bankers to Iceland to show them how to make a proper mess and the UK will bail them out AGAIN.

I thought the money paid back would only go to the Government and not the people who lost cash in the crash.

Its nice to see a politician pay attention to what the people in a Country want. More than 25% of the voting public in Iceland signed the petition. Could you get even 5% of the voting public in this country to do anything - I think not.

Sonja is correct in the main. I had money invested in 2 Icelandic Banks and got my money back through the Financial Services Compensation Scheme which to my amazement was very very efficient.

The only people who didn't get their money back were wholesale depositers including local authorities and of course our own Government who compensated us.
