Default Another Xmas Phone Scam

Hi All

You may have heard of these but my local neighbourhood watch have alerted us:

Good afternoon from PCSO Alfie Kent of the Grantham Town Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team. I would like to make you aware of a couple of telephone scams that are becoming all too frequent at the moment. Both are designed to get people to pass bank details over the phone in order to gain access to defraud your bank account. The first scam involves someone calling pretending to be from the local council regarding overpayment of Council Tax. You are then told that in order for the refund to be paid direct to your bank you need to pass bank account details to the caller. The second is particularly relevant in the run up to christmas. Someone claiming to be from Royal Mail or Parcelforce or a Courier Company call saying that they have a parcel for you but that there is a shortfall in the postage paid. Before they will deliver the parcel the shortfall has to be paid and again your bank details are requested. No reputable firm or organisation would ask for bank details over the phone. Please be aware of these scams. As always thank you for your continued support and vigilance.
