It beggars belief!!.......
Officialdom, in it's infinite wisdom, has decreed that in the UK courts, youths are now no longer to be called youths!! Why??
It might hurt their feelings! Ahhhh diddums!
What utter tosh. A youth is a young person, and young people are just that - it's axiomatic. It's the word from the OED most used for a young person. What else are we to call them?? Juveniles, young person, sub adult, teenager?? Let's face it, they all mean the same.
In any event, why should calling a youth a youth upset or embarrass anybody.
OK lets call a spade a spade. Let's call them what they really are - young thief, young bully, young murder, young yob...... ad nauseum.
And whilst we are toeing the government line, let's call officialdom what they deserve to be called -
Inept Brown
Liar Blair
Disgraced Mandelson
Oaf Johnson
Dangerous Darling
etc, etc.
I'm beginning to have trouble sleeping now.

Thats just typical, isn't it?
l worked for a number of years in a prison, and l know what l called them. It began with B.
l also remember reading back through the gate journal of 1899, and 2 entries that stuck out were a lady who was jailed for 3 days for "smoking in the presence of a gentleman" and a YOUTH who was given 3 days bread and water, for stealing a loaf of bread.
How times have changed.

As there is no link to this 'statement', despite the potty pc world we now live in, I do wonder about it's credibility. Has it come from one of the red top rag mags?
Though not familiar with Court procedure, I somehow doubt the term 'youth' or 'youths' would be used in reference to anyone either standing in the dock or elsewhere in the courtroom. Surely they would be addressed by name?
It's certainly a description widely used within the media.

Seems strange to me too as it's called
Youth Justice System and the
Youth Court
Youth Justice Board - Youth Court
