one thing that visiting more than 40 countries over the last 25 years has taught me ..... the BBC is one of the few british things held in high regard world wide , and when you look at / hear the material produced elsewhere it is easy to ascertain why !

so now mr murdoch wants to charge for access to his products on the internet , but is going to have a problem with that as long as the BBC gives us free access to information on what is happening in the world
hence the switch to supporting the Conservative party , who are going to stop the BBC providing free web information if reports are to be believed ; if it stops being funded out of the licence they will have no alternative ..... sounds a likely quid pro quo to me

and like domino's , the internet as we know it will start to tumble as it gradually becomes a pay service and mr murdoch amasses a few more billions

is this really what we all want ?

Murdoch will take over the media world given the chance and the school boy Cameron will let him, he knows the cost of everything but the value of nothing the NHS will go down the plug hole if he get in, we will end up paying for both. I have lived abroad for many years and the BBC & NHS are both the envey of all.

The people who moan about the licence fee must like adverts for things they don't need or want and watchig half hour programs made to last for an hour. Rant over but Cameron and Murdoch will be the death of the free internet for news.

You are so right, the BBC is great value for money. You get world class TV, excellent radio stations, local news, iplayer and probably the best internet site in the world.

Its really important that overseas media tycoons aren't allowed to dominate our media

Just a pity that the beeb's been losing the plot / bottle for a fight. The politicians have got it on the run - particularly since the fall out over David Kelly. They are being censored as a result - and yet the real villain in this was err oh yeh Tony Bliar and friends.
The management are running scared I think - hounded by err oh yeh Murdoch's merry men.

It's difficult to stand up for what you believe - takes moral courage - and needs active support to thrive, it should not be pandering to the lowest common denominator - that's Murdoch's job.
