Default Rip off Britian or is IT

Hi,

Recently returned from a few weeks in France, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg and I really wonder if anyone can actually still say its Rip off Britain, I found only one thing that was relatively cheap and that was Diesel in Belgium and Luxembourg the Diesel in all of the others was very similar pricing to here unless you made a point of searching out supermarkets etc, as for the food, both to cook and eating out was expensive cloths in all of the countries were a lot more expensive, white goods including TV's etc prices made your eyes water, and car batteries etc you needed to take out a HP agreement, coupled with the bank charges that these countries make I really wonder should we still say Britain is a Rip Off

And camp sites that were basic albeit close to the Rhine 23€ per night out of season, and Aires 22.5€, and Electricity on Stelplatz 2€ for 3kWh.

What do you think,

I agree with Peter.

Nothing has really changed in Europe but the exchange rate. Prices there are similar to what they were a couple of years ago, when we were paying almost of a third less for our euro's. The only country that I have visited recently which seems to have got (relatively) more expensive, is Spain. Used to be the place for a cheap holiday, but now it's as expensive as France, and in some cases, more so. Barcelona in particular, is really expensive!!

If you want value for money, Holland still seems a lot cheaper to me than other European countries, and there are great bargains to be had in Amsterdam.

Hi,

I agree that its the way the value of the £ vs € but I just wonder whether the Germans and the French etc are now saying Rip of France, Rip of Germany as the UK must seem to them like heaven, ?

and by the way I'm booked to go back to Germany next month so please don't read this as anti Europe,

hi ,i have been saying for a while uk is the best its ever been. its equaling out . it as changed with the falling of the pound .but speak to the locals when you visit other countries they are not happy. its about time people from uk stood up straight and made uk the place we want it to be .most seem to blame everybody else. there are lots of oportunities if people open their eyes and go for it. i,m proud to be a uk citizen i think its the best i,veever known in my life time . we have an incredibley high standard of living now. do we want to go back to the past ?no thankyou. keep smiling it helps. cheers alan.

Hi

I also agree, the exchange rate has made most things abroad dearer than the UK , however, as site fees are a major cost when going away and with tons of free or cheap aires, France still remains our favorite destination .. If we had similar facilities it would be much less attractive.

What do you think,[/QUOTE]

I agree with a lot of what you say . But I couldn't holiday in the UK for 4 weeks and receive the same value overall . The food quality and price in the Supermarkets is far better than the Uk .Diesel cheaper , Roads are better and less congested .Camping cheques for campsites and Aires makes it unbeatable .Wine euro a bottle , and you get pretty girls sitting at the side of the road in their deckchairs waving at you, mind you have seen some empty chairs ?

Hi, Jim

I would have agreed with you up until a few weeks ago, and I can tell you France does appear to be very very expensive, we actually think Germany was on the whole probably the cheapest overall, Obernai Municipal campsite 15.60€, very nice site but basic albeit Obernai is a great place to visit.

We do have some Aire's or legal overnight parking/sleeping areas which i feel are similar albeit not in the quantity, Canterbury P&R, Marine Parade Dover, I was under the impression you can park in a lot of Places in Scotland free ??

I know its not quiet the same but there are also some very good deals in UK campsites if one looks around we have just come back from Brean and it was on £11 per night hard standing with electric, and earlier in the year there were deals in and around the same area for £8.50/night. In Devon last week we only paid £12.50 for hard standing with electric plus access to an indoor heated swimming pool, there are some very good UK deals if you look around, as you can pay the above rates on very basic aires in France and Germany

I'm not knocking Europe I'm just asking the question has the revaluation of the £ vs € turned the tide of Rip off Britain,
