Scotland
Following on from a thread about midgies, the question is "Is a trip to Scotland worth suffering the midgies for?"
In my view yes the people are friendly and the scenery is absolutely stunning. (but I would say that cos i'm a Jock.

Just thought "Jock" isn't politically correct. If i'd any money i'd sue myself.

Eat plenty of Haggis and drink enough whisky, it won't keep the midges away , but you will feel good after both

Being and ex scot who youth hostelled, camped, caravanned, motorhomed in this beautiful country since childhood...........
May & June and Sept & Oct to me are the most scenic months, which coincidentallly are the months with the least little beasties abounding!!
I wouldn't dream of going july-august because I get eaten alive no matter what I put on [deet etc] and also the touristy bits are very busy.
October is my fav.... lovely clear skies, picnics by the side of the loch, autumn colours........ only drawback is the earlier dark nights... but then there's always the local hostelry only too willing with food and drink!!
Ahh.............................
cheers alice

Had 5 weeks up the West Coast of Scotland April/May, great weather no midges, thought we would have a quick look at Kintyre, instead of 2 days stayed 10 days so much to see just in that small part of Scotland, so much to see in Scotland ,there in 5 weeks only seen a small part will definatley be back, Carol.

Scotland is tops. Yep, we go there at least once a year, mostly west coast, but later this year might try Cromarty / Black Isle. The midges love me, (being fair skinned) but that doesn't put me off at all. If they get too bad, I use a splash of Avon Skin So Soft.

Hi Delboy .
I agree, simply stunning. But the dam beasties eat me alive.
PS. do you find it a little damp living in Loch Lomond.
Best wishes, Pudseykeith.
