I recently replaced my aging Magellan Roadmate 700 with TomTom One XL Europe, I like the support software which runs on the Mac and the availability of POIs.
Compared to the Magellan (which had a 2 GB hard drive for map storage) TT is fast and accurate, I like map share and the ability to correct map errors.
TT One XL has a wide screen and with no other built in toys has kept it slim and light weight, it has never fallen off the screen.
To my knowledge there is no GPS unit that can be programed for large vehicles and TT does not route around the low bridges only giving warnings when approaching but I believe this will be incorporated in future software updates.
What else can be said, if you want a 'swiss army knife' GPS with mp3, blue tooth phone, picture files etc etc etc TT One is not for you but if you want a good solid GPS unit with all the maps of western Europe, full UK 7 digit post codes with an easy to use touch screen interface, runs straight out of the box and doesn't need a two day course to learn then I highly recommend it, and it won't break the bank .. 10/10

You might find this useful

If looking for a tomotm, this site can be interesting...

http://www.find-tomtom-deals.co.uk/

BUT

If you fancy a CHEAP satnav solution...

(This info is taken from another forum and is UNCHECKED by me in any way)

Halfords are clearing out any obsolete sat navs that they still have in stock - it will vary from store to store but if you are lucky you might find a bargain! Here are a few to look out for:

AA Navigator - £34.99
Navman ICN 330/530/550/720 - £34.99 each
Garmin NUVI 310 - with bluetooth! £34.99
Garmin NUVI 300 - £49.99
TomTom GO 500/700 - £34.99
Navman N40i - £99.99
Garmin C510 Deluxe - £49.99

There are quite a few more, many stores won't have these in stock but it is worth asking or poping in as you never know!

Mine last years equivilent of this, fantastic pce of kit, navigate from here to any euro location seamlessly (including ferry routes, I kid ye not, ships actually follow those blue lines including the corners!!!) dial the ferry company book tickets while on route...

This works for all POI's with number so call ahead book table, room, book tickets etc

The traffic management is a dream come true, diverts you round hold ups brilliantly.

Speed camera's (including average speed specs (gives you your average too...)

Onboard Outlook address database from your computer, route to contact and even ring them through onboard handfree...

Would I buy Mio again? definately....

Mine is a Garmin StreetPilot C330. No big problems with it. The optional non-skid friction mounting base for dash mounting is excellent. I would consider another Garmin but would definitely look at what else was available when the time comes.

We bought a TomTom one europe, it's almost idiot-proof (i can use-it!!)
It will take you down some narrow roads but as that's what i do for a living
it's no bother to us.

I have a Garmin 2610 - use it on the bike with a special mount, (it plays through the 40w/channel stereo so everyone around knows what the route is)
When in the car I use the beanbag - it can slip around a bit on roundabouts but I got one of those grippy sticky mat thingies for a fiver and it's perfect.

It can select routes for bike/car, pedestrian!, truck, bus etc but still sends you down narrow roads since it goes by the classification M, A, B, C, unclass etc and doesn't actually know how wide the road is

Also you can select your preference of Motorways, Trunk roads and Minor roads

The only real snag is when it tells you 400ft to turn and you are on it already - I suppose I could slow down a bit...

I have a Nav Man and a Ramar but i still find myself using my Route 66 european streetfinder on the laptop!

I bought the Nav Man because it was a cheap pda (£99) and the Ramar was under the seat in the van when i bought it!

I would advise you to be careful using them though because they record your fastest mph on your journey and can be used as evidence against you!
