When people talks about weapons for private people, the discussion is almost always about how it is in the United States, but Switzerland also have a relaxed attitude towards gun laws and weapons:

Which is where culture, mindset, mentality and education all come into the equation.
Take the factual figures from the USA and Canada and that should tell you one heck of a lot about guns and the people who handle them.
Guns and bullets on their own don't kill......people do.

Glad you mentioned that as I can tell you from personal experience having been married to a Swiss for ten years (now ex!) and having spent much time out there, it's a totally different culture and mindset.

Switzerland is not the best example to quote. They have the record for suicide by fireames in Europe amongst the 15-24 years olds.

A lot of attacks have been carried out by basically weaklings but once they are on their drugs and need cash to feed their habit then they become immortal and they will get up close to you . The most deadliest weapon you will come across and which is used in most killings is the kitchen knife .

The US don't have time to think about suicide.....their brains have already been blown out by a neighbour annoyed about the height of the garden hedge.
Given the choice I certainly know where I would prefer to live.

What are your views??
1. Ban them in all their forms (firearm & airgun) completely.
2. Lock them up at shooting ranges or similar.
3. Leave the laws as they are.
4. Gun laws should be relaxed and we should adopt the USA style of gun law.
5. Farmers Stay As They Are But Everyone Else Should Use Another Choice As Above

There is one massive problem with this.
Guns are very valuable to the people that own them, but they are even more valuable to people who want to steal them. An owner is required to keep his FAC guns locked up in a secure place; the ammunition and the bolt (where applicable) are required to be locked up seperately. Any owner of a FAC firearm is breaking the law if this is not done (= random spot checks by the police). If any body wants to steal your gun he has to break into your home and defeat the security of your gun cabinet to get one or two guns. If he wants any more he has to go through the whole process somewhere else. If you and the other three (or thirty) dozen members have the guns locked up at the club house the thieves only have to defeat one set of security precautions and he can pick and choose. We rest our case M'lud

Gun crimes double in the UK while in many cities in the US they are falling. If I lived in an area where there was high gun crime. I'd rather it be in a country that allowed everyone to have a weapon and not just the toerags.
