Hi Jim

I have run two competitions now on MHF as you say. I have also run many others outside the realm of motorhoming.

The problem I can see with a motorhome forum is that there are so many members with such varied tastes.

Kands has already mentioned the photo rally I ran. It was a very successful weekend and created many threads of interest afterwards. Kands is 100% right when he says it leaned heavily towards photoshop. This was for two reasons 1) the majority asked for it and for me, these days photography is all about photo manipulation aka photoshop.

This diversity leads me to one of the main problems with comps - you will have one camp saying Thats not a photograph, its a photoshop and the other happily photoshopping everything.

You will then have many varied photographs ranging from maybe a picture of an animal to a stunning landscape - how do you judge one picture against the other. People get very serious about their photography. You will also have members like Laurie with her digital hasselblad and network of macs and then another member with a camera from the biggest manufacturer of cameras in the world - nokia.

Lots to think about oh and is the comp for the best photographer or the best photograph

Hope the above helps

Maybe there could be different catagories say..
  • Landscapes
  • Animals
  • People
  • Fun, if people are willing to share their cockups, finger in the shot, heads chopped off etc.
Then from the winners of those an overall winner.

It would also be nice to have a junior section.

I still like Jim's idea. I also think the photograph should be judged not the photographer. I like many others look at a photo and think that's fantastic the photographer is often not known. How can you judge a photographer from the few photos posted on a web site? I have been lucky enough to get some great photos (in my opinion) over the years but this is a few from the many, it doesn't make me a great photographer.

In conclusion remember KISS

Now I like this

I love our cameras although know very little about them.

My screen saver from webshots at the moment has pictures on it that are almost like 3D and superb.

So all my silliness aside a meet would be a good idea.

I totally agree, and suggest that all entries should be posted to a specific email address, where uopn the photo is given a number to hide the identity of the photographer. Then All the entries posted onto a webpage and judged.

That's my 2p worth

I'll be joining the competition too. Any idea's on the date of comp

I'm keen on the idea of the photo meet AND the competition. Now, how do I connect my box Brownie to t'internet?: Or do I have to feed the film through the floppy disk drive?

Cheers
Doug

I didn't look at the competion on motorhomefacts this year, but I thought last year there were just too many entries, and wading through them all was difficult, which meant the first 20 got votes but the others didn't as I lost interest whilst using a slow Welsh narrowband connection.

What do you guys think? Artona is here, he runs the Competition on motorhomefacts, what you you think Stewart?

Good idea Jim and we could also limit the number of photos/person to 5 or something, on the other side some people entered far too many photos.

How about the 4 categories

People
animals/pets
landscapes
fun

One photo per person per category.
I feel members would then post what they feel is their best photo in each category and the members could vote for what they feel is the best photo in each case?
