Default motorhome travelling with potbellystove

My son would like me to go with him in motorhome in winter to France and Spain with potbelly stove for heat. Has anyone done this? Sounds risky to me.

Hi Anne

Welcome to MHfun. Bear with us, its Sunday morning, the morning after the night before

Are you asking

1) Is it risky having a potbelly stove for heat in the motorhome
2) Going to France and Spain for winter
3) Or going with your son

or using the stove whilst on the move?

Near Orgiva in the Alpujarra mountains in Spain there are 2 or 3 hippie communes. The residents had a motley collection of converted vehicles - most of these were fitted with wood-burning stoves.
One camper on our site, with a Mercedes van, decided it was a good idea and I watched him get the tin snips out, cut a hole in his roof and fit the stove. The white smoke issuing from the roof was of Papal-announcing proportions but he loved it - it was like a sauna in there.

Risky yes, the risks can be managed of course, correctly installed and vented is high on the priority list followed by secure fire proof mounting and shielding.
a guard would almost go without saying, and use on the move totally prohibited
But and its a Big BUT, is your insurance company aware of the heating method proposed
Geo
And where on earth are you going to store the fuel for it

My motorhome, when I am in it, has both a stove and a pot belly

I guess it would need to be an RV for that, but knowing Kands, one is probably on Sharons shopping list
