Default Trouble getting MOT in kent

Hi,

Before we embark on our full time trek, I thought I would get an MOT upfront for a year. I rang 7 MOT stations in our area and all said 'too big' too heavy etc. etc. The ones that do 'plating' won't touch class 4. Any-one know where I can get it done in the Canterbury or Ashford area ?. Our motorhome is 5990 KG GVW with a 5 metre wheelbase.

Thanks for your speedy replies. 'Highwayman', Regent coaches was one I tried. Very helpful man said their computer would not cope. Could'nt find MOT stations on the MMM web site. I was hoping some-one would know through experience, where to go.

Have a word with Canterbury City Council. Whoever tests their vehicles and the other services, usually will test Motorhomes as well. They only test vehicles, so wont fail them just to get the work to repair them.
I read that on another forum, and found that it saved me a 5 mile journey. The workshop is only about a mile from home.

Then you are in trouble
All MoT stations use the same computer

I am going to shoot the next person to post this remark

Not that you deserve an explanation, but here goes
Every MoT tester and centre operator under goes a criminal record check,
IE we are basically Honest people
Vosa and the Trading Standards people set us up with un announced test cars, on a very regular basis
would I or anyone risk a multi thousand pound business to make a few quid out of bogus repairs
THINK ABOUT IT
Just for info, We earn £60 an Hr testing cars and £30 an Hr repairing them, work that out!!!!!

Have just had the same problem but in Lincolnshire, eventually took her ourselves to VOSA in Peterborough and passed. Not as bad as we'd had nightmares about for nights before we went, they were really helpful and pleasant.

Have you tried Mercury rv at Sittingbourne? Simon there took our friends' rv through pre-MOT checks etc and presented it for the MOT for them. Can't speak personally but they were well pleased with his service.

Good luck and happy travelling
