It was overcast when we woke today, but by 12 o'clock it was bright, sunny and warm again.
Took the van off today and called at St Junien for some essentials (mostly wine)
Then onto the Martyr Village of oradour Sur Glane. A little of the story.....
On Saturday the 10th of June 1944. This atrocity was carried out by soldiers of the Der Führer Regiment of the 2nd Waffen-SS Panzer Division, Das Reich. On that day they killed a total of 642 men, women and children without giving any reasons for their actions and to this day there is no universally accepted explanation for the massacre
Very sad.
We did not go into the memorial centre as on principal I will not pay when I cannot take my camera.
So had a walk around and as you can see managed a couple of pics from outside, also a shot of the memorial in the cemetary.
We came back "the pretty way" by Cognac La Foret. Some very small roads but the scenery was stunning. :thumb:
A few piccies for you.
