Hi Clo
Well, this is our final call from Cabopino as we head north to Roquetas and Vera en-route to Mazarron for 10 days, before heading to Santander for the ferry on 28th March via Madrid and Burgos. With any luck we’ll be back in Blighty on 29th and home on 30th. We are stopping the night in Pulborough at Alan and Mary’s.
Trying out the boot fair up at the Mijas racecourse this morning after a spot of lunch out somewhere. Boot fair was another dickdance so will try again next week – bit later. Went for lunch on the beach – surly owner – not surprising only 4 tables filled in a restaurant that could feed 150! We were all Brits as well. Tells a tale probably.
Saw an amazing Dutch van parked up. 6 wheeler conversion from a military truck I think. 2 very elderly owners. Looked like it was set up for rough terrain. Not much living space though.
Still very hot. Mid 20’s C. Looks good till summer as well. Pity we have to go home!!!!
Pat and Maria in Granada so my liver will get a rest. Camp BBQ on Wed and we will try the Cable Car at Benalmadena on Thursday. That should be fun.
BBQ was very good. We had a boules contest beforehand – we lost in first round – but our neighbours Paul and Jackie were runners up and British Champions. Went onto the BBQ and had a good feed – even though the Germans nicked all the nice stuff – but we had plenty and the booze was free. The camp supplied a disco and live singer. A good time was had by all.
Then on to Benalmadena with Pat, Maria, Paul and Jackie via bus and train. No faffing as the entrance was at Tivoli Gardens just 10 minutes walk from the train station, and we went on the Cable Car (€13 return) for a 15 minute trip up the mountain soaring above the A7 up to 800 metres (2750ft). Great views from up there and after a brilliant flying display from Eagles and Eagle Owls we climbed to the summit. Could see Africa and Gibraltar. Even Maria didn’t crash in car no 13!
Back to Fuengirola via train and had a great Tapas and Vino at a bar recommended by Paul and Jackie. Home to bed after a very nice day and very hot – 25C +.
We were going to bus into P Banus for the market and walk back to Marbella but had LMF!
Quiet day and at Lidls we heard a woman talking to a staff member saying she had just arrived from the airport with her husband in a hire car parked at Lidls and did their shopping. Returned to car to find luggage, computer and passports all gone! Shirl reckons they were followed from the airport. We were amazed as Lidls is always crowded. I did feel sorry for them but it really was careless! One really has to be more careful than that. Never get separated from your passport! Never! Unless it's locked away safely in the van.
You can afford to lose most other things. Computer must have been a blow as well!
Had Paella Sunday with the usual crowd plus Olivia and Steven from NI who play Boules. Nice to see you.
Monday is a restday, although here it is a holiday as it is Andalusia Day. Lots of Spanish families and events for the children. Fixed the windscreen wiper and repacked the garage. Wx set to change at the weekend, so we’ll pack up on Thursday and make a break for it in a ‘suckers’ gap. Julian and Josie are trying to make contact and we might see them.
Anyway, watched the Clarets creep up the league with another great win at PNE. Games in hand and 7th now. New manager is doing the business.
Went for a long walk with Pat and Maria along the beach from Cabopino to Marbesa and had a lovely lunch at the beachside restaurant Club 200. Excellent views and food. Walked back in the dark along the beach. Suppose we should have taken a taxi!
Another long walk. Caught the bus into P Banus with Paul and Jackie abd after a stroll round, wound our way along the beachfront pathway for lunch on the beach at the Trocadero restaurant. Again, wonderful views and food in the sunshine. We’ll be sorry to be leaving here, but the weather is due to turn soon, so we are packing the awning away tomorrow whilst it's still dry. We will leave Cabopino on Monday if the wx ahead is OK. If not we can delay.
Hope to meet up with Julian and Josie at Vera after another night at Roquetas. Then to Mazarron for 10 days. But the wx looks a bit shabby. We’ll have to see.
Will post again at Mazarron.
Love
M and D
