Hi Paulus

A bit of a "no brainer" for us, we love Brugge and visit there at every opportunity.
Brugge is a much more interesting city to visit when compared with York.
However I would point out that the Xmas market at Brugge is somewhat disappointing.
The xmas market in the Grand Place in Brussels is much better and can be reached by a short train journey from Brugge.

It was worth it to us, don't think that the train fare was overly expensive.
But it was a few years ago when we went.
Have a look at the following link.

forget york.....overpriced christmas tat. :winky:

since when has european train travel been anywhere near as expensive as the archaic rail system in this country..

brugge to brussels.....probably cheaper than the london underground:thumb:

travel to berlin for around the same price as york to london:Angry:

I'd go for Brugge, but don't get there then go into a pub for a long-lazy lunch.
Cos when you come-out you'll find everything shut and everyone gone
And you'll look stupid

I love Brugge too but the Christmas market is disappointing . We were there last New years eve and that was brilliant.

Belgium is a great place...

BTW Oostende is good too and there is an aire of sorts at the old fish market near the fort napoleon. Fort Napoleon | Gevecht met de tijd - La bataille contre le temps
