Sorry what is Christmas all about, must of missed that one, its only one day isn't it. I try and be friendly all the time with most folks, re the family always close and celebrate every time, all year with a laugh and a joke. The Ski season is close. aaaaagh just remembered my Birthday at Christmas time.
Any way wishing you all the best and be well.

It was great until those bloody hymn singing Christian immigrants came along with their foreign religion, took over our country and re-branded it 'Christ'-mas.

I want my Solstice back.

Christmas isn't too bad here in France. Your not allowed to put up public Decorations till around the 8th December, then they have to be taken down by 12th Jan. Nothing about Christmas on the TV etc. I have English TV and I'm sick of seeing at the Christmas films etc. Boxing Day here is not a bank holiday, its just a normal day. Nearer to Christmas day some of the little villages have fetes. The residence of a village down the road from us have an open evening where the villages prepare food and little eats, some provide drinks. They have a band and bar. You donate what you want which goes to the school to help send the kids off on summer holidays. Very nice atmosphere.

Sorry but the significance of this is lost on me as I avoid any film or tv channel bearing the word christmas or any derivative thereof.
I've not seen it but I believe "The Grinch" is about a mean creature who dislikes Christmas ... or something like that!

What I love about Christmas:
1) The joy on my little girls face when Santa delivers the toys she really wanted.
2) Not working
3) Spending time eating and drinking way too much with sister and mum.
4) The pub. Very amusing at this time of year, now that I don't work the other side of the bar!

What I don't like so much:
1) People constantly asking me what I want for Christmas! It's Whisky, how many time do I have to say it!
2) Trying to work out what my wife wants for Christmas so that she doesn't secretly plot my unfortunate accident in the forthcoming weeks!

I just love Xmas and for me and my family it is about spending quality time with family and friends catching up, eating and drinking and having fun. It's a time for playing lots of silly games and just enjoying each other's company. I don't believe in spending a fortune on presents as I think that materialises it but I do enjoy finding and wrapping lovely presents for everyone's individuality. It's the only time of year that we can see most of our family which is very special to us.

And IF jc ever existed, of which there is no evidence, I read somewhere that he would have been born in September. So who chose the day before Boxing Day to celebrate this non-event?

Correctomundo, as the Fonz would say :)

It was all to do with people traveling for a census if I remember correctly which took part pre December, not sure what month though.

SWMBO loves Christmas, so I sort of like it too, though I do get the occasional fit of the 'Bah Humbugs'. Eat and drink too much, but I do that all year.
SWMBO birthday is Boxing day so extra pressies to be bought, and go out to eat so she gets one day a year off cooking.

Well, you seem to make the Grinch look like an amateu

Thank you, I would have taken that as a compliment were it not for Minxy's use of the word "mean", I am certainly not average.

I love christmas and am very mindful of past years as I put up my tree. We celebrate the Solstice as a family with grandkids as my Daughter and her children [quite rightly ] want to be at their house when Santa comes. I agree that it is not the same without the children waking up on Christmas morning; but I have wonderful memories of past Christmases with my parents; and my daughter and how excited and happy others [and me!] are at GIVING presents; even home made ones when money was short. I buy a new tree ornament every year and have all the pom pom robins and Fimo snowmen my little girl made before she grew up, I have the fairy I brought my parents as the topper on my tree; and I take a day to put the tree and lights. Not all memories are happy but the tradition of putting it up brings me a lot of joy.

Just got back from our Christmas breakfast with a few friends. Possibly a bit odd to some with our crackers and paper hats in the greasy spoon but we had a really good time with no alcohol involved.
I love Christmas, it's a great time you can act as daft as you like and nobody gives a hoot.:xThumb: Merry Christmas...

Christmas has truly arrived tonight with the Round Table Christmas float has just passing with carols and plenty of yohohos. This has been passing for as long as I can remember and it is as good now as it ever was.:xThumb:

Love it when, finally, Christmas day arrives and all the presents and food have been got. I love the excitement of my grandchildren as I say to them 'Has he been'. I always enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner with all my family together.
I dont like the commercialism of it and the way people fill their food trollies up at the supermarket as if there is going to be a siege.
