I have just purchased a XGODY 718 chinese satnav. On receipt initial impression was that the hardware is better than my old one. However the good news ends here.

Looking to see what the date of the maps was (2015q1) I noticed that there are no truck files for the maps thus rendering the unit useless for large vehicles. As a test I set it up as a 40ton lorry and it let me drive over an 18ton limit bridge without any warning. My old unit with the truck files warned me several times.

I have written to the supplier and manufacturer and await an answer.

I suggest that anyone who has bought an XGODY 718 or 704 check that the ftr files are there if they have not already done so. The files should be in the primo/content/map there should be an ftr and fbl file for each country.

I will post again when I get a response from my enquires.

    John

It doesn't excuse the supplier, of course, but I assume you could copy the latest .ftr file(s) from your old sat nav to the new unit. At least that should make it usable.

@GJH Graham I have done precisely that, the problem lies with all those who have bought one and are unaware until its too late.
I have also looked at their download site but those files are from 2014q1 so 12months older than the files on the unit.

What files did you have on your unit?

If anyone does need the .ftr file, I loaded the latest one I have to the Resources Section Here last month when some Funsters had downloaded a new set not containing a .ftr file and had deleted the old set. N.B. UK only I'm afraid.

You won't be able to open them (or any of the other iGo map files) on your PC. You read the data using the sat nav software.

No you wont be able to open them they are opened by the igo program.

As you can see there are no .ftr files so it is useless as a truck satnav. The ftr files contain the road restriction data.

It is sold as a truck Satnav so the suppliers should supply the necessary files shouldn't they?

That would not be an unreasonable expectation

But look on the bright side it appears that Austrlia and New Zealand are now part of europe

Australia did Eurovision last year so that's not an unreasonable assumption :giggler:

    The saga continues.

I had a reply with a link to download a new set of maps for the UK (y) with much anticipation I downloaded the file (287 mb) and guess what, it was just a repeat of what was already on the unit :( no ftr or fda files.

I have responded along the lines that they donot understand the problem and asking what they are going to do about the incorrect ebay ads and also how are they going to address the problem of the people who hve bought this unit and are unaware of the problem.

I am not going to hold my breath waiting for a solution any time soon.

The only up side to this is that the hardware is a significant improvement on the old unit.

Eurovision is nothing to do with Europe, gets it's name from the TV company that started it in the 50's.:ROFLMAO:

Hmmmm. So does that mean that although I have entered the size of my camper, it won't take any notice and still send me down inappropriate roads???
Is there any way around this John?
I'm a bit miffed as my son as what he could get me for Christmas and I gave him the relevant link as it stated "for truck use".
