The local Fiat garage has quoted me £520 for just the cam belt kit replacement on a 2012 Ducato :-(
I suspect I can get it done cheaper somewhere else!

Mine will be 5 years old in May. Does cambelt need changing then? Only done 20k. Is it worth doing a water pump at 20k also?
Cheers

Definitely recommend changing the water pump at the same time, even at the extortionate price Fiat charges for it (222.03 GBP last year)! I had mine done by Dave Newell, recommend him, he does a good job and you get the Funster discount as well.(y) I can´t give a price just for the belt and pump because I had all the filters and fluids changed at the same time. Also worth changing both drive belts at the same time IMO, they don´t cost a lot.

I paid about £300 ish I seem to remember, that was about 2 years ago, just before I sold the van of course and got my current one. And yes the belt should be changed by 5 years.

Thanks for the replies I had a quote from Desira Fiat dealers who wanted £860 for the belt inc water pump, and another From Simpsons who said £610. I will have the water pump done since the milage is now 67k.

Johns Cross (North of Battle) did mine and they were quite a bit cheaper than my Fiat Pro garage

Had mine done here, think it was around the £350 mark, but 4 years ago. Nice old fashioned style garage, good honest work, by the older generation fitters and all prices are very realistic. There's plenty of space to wild camp outside the garage, as there's a lot of room and quite rural. There's also a motorhome and caravan suppliers another mile up the road if required for any reason, including hab checks etc.

Haynes Garage.

Must be millions spent on the paranoia of cambelt, but skip the service schedule or time period and it can be £1000's to repair a damaged engine.

Thing the rule of thumb is the prescribed mileage (which most motorhomes hardly ever achieve), or 5 years:)

Lots of people ask advice, but the only sensible answer can be the one you give yourself. If someone was to say leave it, don't bother, even if you've done so many years, and it then goes the next day, then no one else is coming along to chip in to assist with the repair costs.

I'm sure others will come along and give their advice too, but the decision is yours and yours alone. Had mine done at the 5 year point, with 13,000 miles or less, but gave me peace of mind. Due again next year and it's still less than 30,000 miles:)

Yes, the recommendation is five years whatever the mileage. I wouldn't chance, you would probably be ok to leave it another year but if it did fail and you needed extensive repairs you would be unhappy with yourself I expect

I had mine done on an Oct'12 reg Ducato done last August by Dave Newell and I would highly recommend both on cost and quality. I am not going to quote the price I paid as that may now have changed, contact him and get a quote.

I had mine done with only 7000 miles on the clock despite being only registered for 4 years the base vehicle was actually manufactured in 2011 which is worth checking when considering to have the work done because of age which would be the most common reason with motor homes.
