Hey everyone, we are going to stay in Chamonix for the winter season and wondered if anyone has knowledge of which Chamonix campsites are open throughout the winter. This isn't our first winter or visit to Chamonix so we are aware of the aires and free parking in the town plus the winter campsite at Les Houches.

Electric hook up, wifi and close to town (2km max) are preferable.

Any info and prices would be a great help

    Thanks
    Steve

try Les 2 Glaciers in Le Bosson - http://www.les2glaciers.com/index-en.html

we stayed there for a week last year and it has everything for winter camping. I think they'll accomodate you for a season as one guy on site was commuting between his m/h there and the UK for the season as he had kids in the GB ski squad who live and train (and get educated) in Les Houches over the winter season. he only needed to be in Cham at certain times but left his m/h there for his family to use as needed.

it's about a 40min walk to town although the Cham Bus has 2 stops nearby (offering different bus routes so more choice) in close walking distance from the campsite

Many thanks for your reply, I've spoken with a few people now who have also confirmed Les 2 Glaciers is the only campsite in the valley open for MH in the winter.

    Thanks again

It's a great pity that Cham hasn't more caravaneige sites than just the one. Sure you can use the main car park below the Midi cable car, and also the one at the Grands Montets but they are just that - car parks - so are fine for a night or 2 but for a longer period where you want warm showers, drying rooms etc, then not so good. And the town have been gradually moving wild campers away from the centre by changing road layouts and parking area access - in the old days, you used to see saisonnaires in campers parked opposte the MBC for a couple of months. We've done a couple of nights there but you can't do that now.

We had an apartment in Cham for 10 years but sold that in favour of a motorhome so we could visit more places (and we invested in the UK with the extra from the sale), but still like to go back to Cham at times as we love the valley so much.

The owners of Les 2 Glaciers are fine, and the site is good if basic compared to other caravaneige sites elsewhere - hope they can offer what you need.
