we're visiting Shrewsbury in September for a weekend and have been looking at campsites but wondered if anyone knows of any good wild camping spots that we could stay at?

Thanks to everyone who can help with suggestions. I'm about to set off for Nottingham so will be driving for a while so don't think I'm ignoring you if I take a while to respond to suggestions.

I don't know of any wild camping spots but there is a nice pub, The Bell, with a small caravan site behind at Cross Houses, 4 miles south east of Shrewsbury.

The showground has camping available. Only a short walk into town.

If you leave Shrewsbury on I think its the A458 its the welshpool road, after a mile or so on the right hand side of road there is a large lay by, there are toilets and an all night snack bar, not the quietest of places but not so bad.
