who has specific motorhome tyres fitted from new?? (1 Viewer)

Leading on from something in another thread, it might be interesting to know if manufacturers now fit specific motorhome tyres (often marked Camper) from new

My previous Hymer Van had ordinary van tyres when I bought it back in 2005, but my Rollerteam T-line 700 has Continental Vanco Camper tyres fitted - bought late 2012.

who else who has bought a new motorhome since 1st Jan 2012 has specific motorhome tyres fitted??

Anyone with a dual rear wheel transit won't have them, they don't exist!

as most [even A classes ] are based on a rolling commercial chassis direct from fiat/merc etc i would doubt if many are !

Yes! My Autotrail purchased new in 2011 had the Continental camping tyers fitted.

Camper tyres

Autotrail fit camper tyres to all of their coachbuilts from 2010 I believe, mine has and all the ones after 2010 I have seen also have them, I am not sure if its part of the type approval that Autotrail go through when the motor caravan is built, mine has the Alko chassis, so the cab is just a component part of the entire vehicle.
I am sure that someone will have more knowledge on this than I do

Camper tyres

Hello I have a 2006 model autotrail and that was originally fitted with michelin camping tyres and I have just replaced with the same tyre and the ride is a lot better now as these are a softer rubber I think

I'm pretty sure that if you are buying a coachbuilt or A Class motorhome over 3 tonnes you will have camper tyres. Whereas some van conversions may have commercial tyres.

Here - 2006 Autotrail Apache 700 had Michelin Campers fitted from new and I've just replaced them with a set of Michelin M+S Campers (Agillas)?
Good grip, quiet, great handling and I feel 'secure'. Not cheap but happy chappy.

Our Autotrail Dakota 2008 has Michelin Camping tyres on it, they are the original ones.
We're just about to replace the two on the front:Sad:

This is certainly not 100% right as when we visited the Niesmsnn and Bischoff factory in November last year they were fitting Conti four season to the new Flairs, these are not a specific camping tyre but it has a better snow rating than the Conti or Michelin camping tyres so possibly they were fitting them for vehicles to be delivered in Germany during the winter. I am sure vehicles coming to the UK would end up on the same tyre.

Our A Class Hymer was factory fitted with 6 x Goodyear Cargos.

I haven't a clue what they are fitting at the factory these days.

Interesting...if they're being fitted as original equipment, would seem to lay to rest the 'camper tyres are just a rip-off' argument?

Nah, camper tyres are probably supplied to Sevel at the same price as commercial ones!

Its just at replacement time the ripping off takes place!
