our current kettle ( for use on the gas hob) pours more water over the worktop than into the mug, so we need to upgrade. Thinking a folding handle may be beneficial. So what brand of kettle do you recommend?

We have one of these, we like it -
While there's nothing wrong with the one we have, we quite fancy one of the collapsing ones - http://www.outdoorworlddirect.co.uk/kampa-folding-kettle-12l.html

We don't have either of those problems with ours. The handle stays up when you open it, so doesn't touch the body while it's in use. To be honest, the hinges holding the handle on don't look the strongest, but ours has been in use for three years, going in and out of drawers, and hasn't broken yet. I've realised that ours is actually the 1.6 litre version, rather than the 2 litre one - currently £11.50 on Amazon. We had one with a fold down handle but when in use the handle touched the metal of the kettle body and made the handle hot too! so we stick to a fixed handle.
The fold down handle was also a little unstable when pouring, depending on the amount of water in it.

ah but how much extra fuel have you used carrying two kettles?I have two. A lime green gas hob one from one of the motorhome shows ... usually on offer ... and a low voltage electric one from a camping shop for when on hook up. No point using gaz if can use ehu already paid for.
