I'm thinking of getting a 2nd phone Sim just so that I have a 2nd phone that is able to receive calls and make the very very very odd phone call if me and the mrs get separated while out to somewhere strange to use in our MH.
Ideally some sim that I could put a few quid onto it and forget about it without having to top it up each month.
Do such plans still exist at all? Or are the all like £10 min per month and the credit gets lost after the end of the month.

Noticed in the Three shop yesterday a sim with unlimited calls, text and 4gb of data for just nine pounds a month. I know I a bit off topic but a very good deal and it is hardly a kings ransom...(y)

Check your signal strength where you live before deciding which network's SIM you are going to spend money on.

Orange (now EE?) taught me this lesson when found I could only get their weak signal in the spare room on the 2nd floor or outside in the street. Vodafone had been OK.

Three PAYG sim is about the best value, calls 3p/min, text 1p, data 1p/mb and 150mb of data every time you top up (lasts 30 days). Sim doesn't expire, you can get from a sim shop with a £10 top up or order a free sim online then top up with £5. If you do more than one top up the additional 150mb of free data does not start until first one expires.
I used to be on a contract now we both have Three PAYG sims works out cheaper for us as we are away for 4-5 months in a year and don't make many calls when away.

Almost all networks will do a PAYG, but don't fall for the trick of buying a "bundle" of minutes and texts, these will run out after 30days.
