Hi all,
Hope you've all had a great weekend away in your MH ,
We've just had our second trip away to Canterbury this weekend. Another great site close to city centre , very friendly and excellent bus service just outside campsite. Anyway we have been writing the mileage down when we've filled up and have worked out we are getting 22 miles to the gallon, is this what you would expect from a 7.5 meter, 2.8 Ducato TD ?

Who is this "poshduck" of whom you speak (live in Essex innit..........) ;)
I used to have a Mk1 Ford Cortina DeLuxe. The deluxe bit was a water temp gauge, carpets and a chrome trim down the side that rusted (n)

At a steady 50mph in 6th gear and the cruise control working, I can get 10mpg. Accelerating down the on ramp of a motorway to join the flow of traffic, I have seen the dash panel read 0.9mpg. The payback is the gurgle of the Chevy v8 big block. Orgasmic.

I assume an average 22-23 mpg (5 miles/litre) for our 2.3 JTD and it's usually that. It's pretty constant across all road conditions if we don't exceed 60mph.

Runs down to Portugal cost a few shillings, but actually, it is not as bad as it sounds. Mainly because the vehicle spends, as they all do, most of it's time standing still. It certainly is not a day to day run about. :sneaky:

A tank of fuel costs me around £80 or 80euros and one tank of fuel lasts about 320miles.

I just use this as a rough guide when calculating costs.

There's too many variables to be watching the mpg closely !

Yikes :eek::eek::eek:

A tank full on mine at todays prices would be around £110 and I would expect to do between 850 and 950 miles on that :D:D

I hired a big one in the USA and spent time in Colorado, fantastic, at around £ 2 a gallon it didnt seem too bad.

actually trying to budget For trip to France

In that case, spend as much time over here as possible. On my return trip from the UK I filled up in Auchan, near Calais, at €1.03 / litre. So you won't have to worry too much about fuel costs.

mine only has 5 gears, top is an overdrive and 10mpg would be nice, but you can't beat the sound of that v8

I'd budget for about 24 gal, then come into France & buy at less than UK. Just enjoy ! 70.p buys you a Euro today, so even at 1.15 € or so it's a good deal. Diesel here in Spain at the moment around 1,05 € - 85.p or there abouts.

I read that as 9 litres per 100kms & if so is excellent as that's around 31,5mpg.

With mine I have a 75l tank & work on absolute worst 700kms ; usual average 900kms & a good day 1120+kms. Usually always turns in 33+mpg. but have had nearly 40 once .

Wouldn't have a clue. When it needs diesel I put some in.

I think it does roughly 400 miles on a fill up but I couldn't swear to it.

That's how I look at it too.

I don't really have much control over it.

Maybe when I am retired and in less of a hurry my right foot will lose some weight.

I have a B584 Hymer 2005 2.8jtd. It's based on the Maxi chassis but Hymer for some reason specify 15" wheels. The speedo (and therefore the odometer) reads high (72mph at a true 65mph). If the tacho is accurate (& I haven't checked it) a true 65mph has the engine turning at 3100rpm. On that basis keeping it under 2K for economy would see me driving at under 40mph. Using cruise control set at a true 65mph & keeping to that off the motorways as well gives 22mpg (actually varies between 21 & 23). Consumption could actually be much worse than that because I'm using the odometer readings to calculate mpg.

Don't get too hung up on MPG - it can vary a lot and also if you start worrying about a few MPG either way then it will spoil your time away.

Drive sensibly and simply enjoy the trips away - it will be whatever it will be......
Best advice so faras above,
Mine does 12 to the Gallon do I look worried ok its a bit bigger but my pound is the same size as yours----- enjoy there are no pockets in a shroud
ps thats the royal "MINE" as its her half that need the fuel I own the back bit

Just been to the Crystal Palace CC site, 380 miles round trip and for once I checked the consumption which was 20 mpg. This was runniung at 60 - 65 on the motorways with a 2.8JTD A class, 3.5T, 6.5 meteres long. It usually drops to about 18mpg when towing the trailer.

According to the trip computer, not reset since new, we have averaged 28.2 mpg over 18,000 miles in our Autosleeper Broadway FB.
I generally keep to a max speed of around 60-65. Any more than that and you can see the fuel gauge moving down quickly.
