on the ford transit there is not enough room between the rear wheels to get the chains onto one wheel.

had thought about putting wheel spacers between the wheels in winter but swapped van for front wheel drive:Doh:big mistake

Our snow chains for our rear wheel Iveco , its not easy to fit as the wheels are close together, dread to think about actually putting them on in the snow.

We got ours direct from Iveco they are really heavy and substantial but weight about 15kilos. We did buy some from the internet and although they were meant to be for double wheels they didnt fit. So be careful when ordering them.

What year Transit did you have?
We are thinking of buying chains for a skiing trip and there is a whole 2 inches between our sidewalls, even at the bulge where the tyres contact the floor!
We have just chatted to these helpful people and they told us their chains for dual wheel Transits are a big seller and there have been no problems to date!

Our tyre size is 185/75x15. It's a 2010 van.

I measured the gap between the twin rears at it's closest point, just 15 - 18mm so no room without chafing me thinks?

The model is a 1992 Hymer S670 on a Mecedes 410D base.

hi, i have always used pewag snow chains . have had them for years . used to sell them years go . have 13-14 ins set and 14-16 ins set never had problems fitting them . they just clip round the edge of the tyre . then adjust on the outside. had them on several vehicles .

if you fit chains on a twin wheeler you must ensure the chain fixing doesnt touch both tyre sidewalls, especially at the bottom.

same as having a rock stuck between them....it will wear through the sidewalls eventually due to tyre flexing and rubbing.

I learnt the easiest way to fit the chains its to drive onto short lengths of 100mm x 50mms timber under the inside wheels which lifts the outside wheels off the ground making for easy fitting.
