wife's having one of her charity Bollywood events ( very popular - does well for Macmillan cancer) started this years ago when her best friends teenage son dies of a brain tumor..All very sad

and as we are probably going to Dusseldorf show she wants to get mucho vino collapso. I am always paranoid regards weight..any ideas how much a box of 6 bottles weighs please? Also what time Auchan Calais shuts on a Sunday and if its even open:censored:

5 litre box =7 bottles=5kg, a fraction of the weight of bottled wine.
Essential for maroc when you have to carry a lot!

Well I presume 6x 70 is 420 so that will be just over 4 kilo, but we bring about 100 bottles back every time we go over. , never think about weight but as we go with 70 odd litres of water when we go and come back empty we aren't much different.
Btw we prefer Carrefour at cite Europe for filling up.

Perhaps a little more that that.

I just tried to weigh a box of six bottles and can't because the scales only go up to 5kg so I took three out and weighed the box with three bottles in it and it was just over 4kg.

I suppose the weight of the bottles has to be added to this so the above is probably more like it.

I can remember when Bulgarian wine hit the shelves. The bottles weighed a lot more than Western European bottles because the glass was of inferior quality (and Fizz bottles weigh substantially more anyway)

Agree with Larry above case of six bottles of wine is 7.5 kg. On returning to UK , we allow ourselves max of 20 cases = 150 kg and then travel with our water tank at empty saving 120 kg & just carry 10 litres of water in a container. Use any water we want we get from sites overnight.
Calais Wines http://www.calaiswine.co.uk/ on the Rue Marcel Doret industrial area off the A216 as you approach Calais Port is open 9am to 7pm seven days a week.
They have some very good deals on wine at 3 bottles for £6. They also have a selection of boxes of wine also.
They also let you pay in Stirling and their website is priced in Stirling.

AFAIK neither Carrefour or Auchan are open Sunday. We always use Pidou at Transmark, open 24/7, and a good stock of New World wines. Pennies more expensive than the hypermarkets, but very very convenient.

Eddie, Auchan (Carrefour too) is only open on Sundays in the run-up to Christmas. Sorry :crying1: Smaller supermarkets usually open on Sunday mornings until about midday - 11h30 - 12h30 depending on locality.

what can I say you guys are the best!:)

it will be a combination of bottles and boxes as many like to buy a bottle and some just a glass..... I have stopped bringing to much back personally as I pretend its for Christmas but it gets drunk well beforehand:(

Mrs M just reminded me that at least Lidl open Sunday's but Pidou at Transmark or Calais wine it is!:D

We usually come back with at least 100 bottles in the back  (Hic!)........ just empty the fresh water tank and you will give yourself room for 80 bottles or so without even trying! :D

1L Water = 1kg = 2.24lb

Wine is near enough the same + the weight of the container.

We bring about 100 bottles of corberre red from cite Europe Carrefour every time we go it's about 1.80 euros a bottle so now not much more than a pound , that lasts us about three months at a bottle a night between us then we are ready for off again, try going to the pub and spending 60p each for the night.
And you can see the same stuff here for £4 to £6 a bottle.

1 litre roughly 1 kilo.

We've just drunk about 40 kilos in the last 6 weeks

Usually go to Carrefour at Cite Europe on way home and just stuff in as much as possible. It's worked so far
