I've just done a 'tip' run and noticed that there's a local authority weigh bridge next door. Seeing the operators standing outside having a smoke, I drove the car in to get a price for when the van is ready to weigh.

I thought £20 for a printed ticket was a bit steep, but probably worth it in the long run. Noticing that it was a large single plate bridge, I asked their opinion on the accuracy when doing the front axle by itself, then after the full weigh, doing just the rear.

"It's accurate enough mate, but that's 3 weighs and 3 tickets £60"

Was I 'weigh' off with my expectations ;) or is that the norm ?

Seems high to me, but you only need 2 weights, total and 1 axle.

We use a weigh bridge owned and operated by a local plant hire company, they charge £12 for front axle, rear axle and both axles complete with ticket.

Ripping you off £10.00 is the norm and accurate enough is not good enough. Personally I'd have walked away plenty of professional companies around without using cowboys.
You only need one printed ticket just write axle weights on the back of it.

Our local one is free if you don't need a printout, and why would you?
ditto, ours is at the Sita "waste management" site which is (strangely) totally rubbish-free so no worries about sharp metal etc on the ground
printed ticket is pointless as it only tells you what you weighed with the specific items & fluids you had on board at the time - which in a moho can change day to day
I suppose it could be of use if you were challenging the manufacturer's or dealer's stated weights

Rip off merchants!

I pay £8 or £9 (can't remember which) to weigh full van then front axle.
Proper printed ticket supplied as well.
That is at a local mill near Ipswich that has a public weigh bridge.

Richard.
We use the Jewers, just off A14 at Woolpit. Cost £8 in 2015 for all 3 weights with print out.

Not a legal requirement to have the van weighed but a legal requirement not to be overweight!

£3 per printout at Bedlington in Northumberland so £9 for front, rear and gross.
Just had mine done yesterday with full everything and all ready for the upcoming French trip. Was well in on both axles but only 60 kg to spare on the gross.
We were a bit nervous because we have fitted an extra battery, solar panel, underslung gas tank, bike rack and back storage box but now well chuffed.
