Just been playing with Xara web designer 7, it gives me the option to build a site in VGA 640 pix, SVGA 760pix or XVGA 955 pix what's the best option?

Get XSitePro instead. It is far easier to use and has some really cool features and you don't have to worry about all that VGA, SVGA and XVGA stuff ::bigsmile:

Looking at the logs on my servers (many millions of hits a day)
1024 x 768 used to be the most common resolution, now days 1280 x 1024 is.

When doing websites I use 960 as this fits in without hitting the browsers chrome. It is also a great number as it is divisible by 12 and 16 for doing 1, 2, 3, 4 column layouts with equal measures for both the columns and the padding.

Until recently I haven't done website graphic design but I have been involved in the programming of lots of sites over the last 14 years and have tried to keep up with the technology and standards. The 960 grid system is great in CSS and covers both centralised and extendible layouts. It also removes any need for html tables for layout.

These are the top ten browser resolutions of the 142,500 visitors that Fun had in October 2011. Just 8 months ago 1024x768 was at no 1. Thankfully its slipping down as people buy better monitors.

Wow, thats a bit different to my stats lol. Must be us MH'ers are all spending our money on the van and not computers or are using el cheapo netbooks due to their small size? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

My screen resolution doesn't even show on your list 1920 x 1200. I think Artona is the same as well.

However the 960 width of the 960 grid system works on all but 1 of the screen resolutions on your list still Jim ::bigsmile:

Hi Karl, yes that was just the top 10. There are at least another 45 resolutions, some are very strange, but I assume that with tablets and net books becoming popular website builders need to take a lot into consideration
